President Obama has lost the support of some of his base since the 2008 election.
Specifically, he has lost the support of 1.2 percent of the American public that was formerly part of his base.

In December 2008, shortly after the election, Obama had a 77% approval rating with self-described liberals.

http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/obama_administration/demographic_notes_barack_obama_approval_index

In the most recent set of Gallup polling, taking the number for all "liberals" and not just liberal Democrats, Obama's approval rating is 71%.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/124922/Presidential-Job-Approval-Center.aspx

According to Gallup, 20% of the American public identifies as "liberal."

http://www.gallup.com/poll/123854/conservatives-maintain-edge-top-ideological-group.aspx

Six percent of a group that constitutes 20% of the public is 1.2 percent of the population as a whole.

http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=6+percent+of+20&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

That means that the self-described liberals who now no longer approve of Obama's job performance are 1.2 percent of the American population.

42. I guess they don't care if we vote or not, Skittles.
We are an insignificant percentage of the population so we are thrown under the bus (along with all the really cool people. Kinda like it!)

Because I live in a red state (KY).

So unless you live in FL or OH, you don't matter. Or something like that.

opposes Obama. It doesn't matter what the data says. They aren't interested in what the data says. They just can't believe that other people don't actually share their opinion, and they go from that premise (independent of reality).

41. Yep. Yep and Yep.
The "but all of my friends are mad at him too" folks that refute Gallop and Politifact and Teh List(s) and every bit of documented evidence of this president's accomplishments and support.

If it goes against their beliefs and those of "their friends," it simply must be "propaganda." It's quite astonishing.

to have voted in 2008?

That should be a good chuck of young new voters :)

39. Heck yeah!
Aren't you looking forward to 4 more years just exactly like the last 2 1/2? What could possibly top this?

See all the gay people serving in the military? So many reinstated with apologies AND back pay! Everybody enjoying affordable healthcare with negotiated drug prices! Gitmo closed for good (because Repubs don't mess with Obama's Executive Order! No sir. He will mop the floor with them). No more drone attacks on Pakistani children (THANK GOD)! Fracking and drilling in the Gulf winding down to nothing! The PATRIOT Act defunct! Renditions stopped and war criminals investigated thoroughly! EPA rules vigorously defended and that Tar Sands thing? It's soon to be toast!

And did you check out Anthony Weiner's replacement who got elected tonight? I'm so glad Obama said that "The Weiner" should resign from Congress. That was freaking brilliant. We are so closer to all our goals with him outa there. Gotta admire that call. Boy, we are on a roll now!

Welcome to DU! :hi: Hope you have a strong stomach.

Here's change. Learn to like it.
It can be positive change, Like I've been working towards,
or it can be Republicans kicking folks all up and down their ass,
Which I believe is on your wish list.

31. I don't get this obsession with telling people they're statistically irrelevant.
Not only is it unhelpful in every which way, if one's actual goal is party solidarity, but it's also a ridiculous appeal to popularity. It's a dishonest way to say you're right, and an ugly way of saying others don't matter.
