I've heard this a couple times from Tea Party types.

Quote Mark 12:17 back to them:

"So Jesus said to them, "Give back to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's."

1. Won't work. They insist it doesn't apply to taxes.
Honestly. But when pressed to describe what it DOES apply to, they have no answer. They just know it ain't taxes.

More selective Bible reading from so-called christians.

6. Of course it appies to taxes. That's what Jesus was talking about.
The reason he said render unto Caesar is because the coins had Caesar's image and name on them. Teabaggers aren't very smart.

4. If 10% is good enough for God, it's good enough for the IRS...
When's the last time god built a road, funded a war, or provided a service to people?

16. quick story
after my husband died, there was this Jehovah's Witness lady that came to my house. For whatever reason, she decided that I was her nut to crack. Well one day she came by and invited me to their church. I told her that I couldn't go to a church where members we not allowed to participate in government. She then said to me that the reason JW's don't participate in civics is because Jesus wasn't political. I asked her if she was kidding me? I said Jesus' entire life was political.

I never heard from her again.

13. Doesn't it also say;
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to go to heaven,
If you do it for the least of thee you have done it for Christ, and
didn't he command a rich man to sell all he had and give it to the poor?
In fact I don't recall one word of Christ which praises being rich, but actually states many times to take care of the poor.
All of this and still render unto Caesar.
Tea Partiers love the Bible only when they are thumping it on a GLBT's head or marching with it in front of an abortion clinic.

19. Merely tithe one day a week
Merely tithe one day a week, which does not, in and of itself deny giving of oneself the rest of the week... unless of course one believes that giving may only be a financial matter only.

17. Actually, they're wrong.
Most conservative churches talk about "tithes and offerings." 10%, the tithe, is the minimum. God also wants their OFFERINGS, i.e., over and above the 10%.

I guess they're trying to shortchange God, too, and just skate by on the minimum. Chintzy bastards.
