George Bush Park is on fire
KATY, Texas – Businesses on the east side of Highway 6 were being evacuated Tuesday as multiple fire departments battled a grass fire in George Bush Park.

The fire was burning on the park grounds, just north of the 16500 block of Westheimer Parkway. Fire officials said the flames were moving to the northeast.

The fire was located in the center of the park, but businesses on the west side of Highway 6 from Westheimer to Noble were being evacuated as a precaution.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I know people who live in the area. Didn't even consider the political aspect.

17. Folks I know who live very close to where this fire is tell me
that the fire might be able to be contained by a bayou on one side. I don't know for sure if this is really so. I too hope they can control this. I live in NV now and know what brush fires can do. The activity in Texas right now is just incredible: http://ticc.tamu.edu/Response/FireActivity/

The park name is too delicious, but I hope the fire can be stopped.

23. "too delicious"
Fuck me.

None of the animals that will die even know what delicious is.

None of the humans who might lose homes and businesses think this is "delicious".

But let's cheer the destruction of nature because of the name.

You've got to be kidding.

32. They were saying in the paper last night that they thought it would
be contained. I sure hope so. That one is not so far from us - about 45 minutes on the highway.

27. I heard the W. Bush library burned down too.
Edited on Wed Sep-14-11 11:49 AM by zinnisking
When George heard about it, he was devastated because there was only one book in it so far and he never got to finish coloring it.

ETA: When delivered correctly, it's a pretty funny joke.

30. I was so sad when I saw that in the Chron last night -
that park (and especially the Millie Bush dog park within it) is the best thing I can name that is associated with that family.

34. When did they change the name of the park?
I used to go there back in the mid 1990's and it was called the Cullen-Barker. Is it named after Little Bush or Daddy Bush?

I'm sad it's burning. It was a great park.
