Sentence Expected in McDonald’s Beating Case

Following last month’s guilty plea in the first-degree assault and hate-crime case involving the beating of a transgender woman inside a Maryland McDonald’s restaurant, Teonna Brown, 19, is scheduled to be sentenced today, according the Associated Press.

Brown admitted to beating Chrissy Polis, 22, in a videotaped assault that went viral online in April, drawing widespread condemnation.

The maximum sentence for the assault charge is 25 years in prison, while the hate crime charge could add another 10 years plus a $10,000 fine. Prosecutors told AP they plan to ask for a five-year prison sentence.
