Transgendered person shot in neck in SE Washington
I've been talking about this stuff in GLBT and/or DC, but I'm just so angry at this point I wanted to put it in GD

Something very bad is happening to transgender women in the District and the police (who have until recently had decent relations with the LGBTQ community) seem to be part of the problem now.

The attacks linked above are in addition to a series of beatings against transgender and lesbian women by groups of young men, which despite community pleas the police are treating as incidents isolated from each other and from the above attacks. I had thought DC was getting better but this is crossing over into the abyss right now.

1. The Columbia Heights death was about a block and a half from my apartment

And the next corner up was the site of beatings of lesbian couples for two weekends in a row. This is awful.

2. WTF is going on in DC? Is this a serial killer or what?

3. There's not a consistent MO, though police are (finally) talking about linkage

At least for some of the attacks (the shooting in Northeast as far as I've read seems to be its own thing; the rest are what people are worrying about).

Two of my friends were beaten by a group of teenagers in Chinatown and had to take it all the way to the police chief to get any response -- which they could only do because they're homeowners with good-paying jobs. Good luck for a lesbian couple with less status in the community to get any help.
