I couldn't help but think of Terry Schiavo last night when
the repulsivcan audience cheered letting a person with no insurance die.

About as great an example of hypocrisy as one would ever hope to see.

2. Very good point.
Republican lawmakers rushed back to Washington to vote to prevent Terry Shiavo's husband from humanely ending her suffering.

3. Wolfie's follow up
should, indeed, have been, "What about Terri? Isn't that a contradiction? And what about an uninsured FETUS?!!"

5. I don't remember insurance being an issue with Terri Schiavo...
when their hard-earned dollars are at risk the pro-lifers soon change their tune.

8. She had won a substantial lawsuit, IIRC.
So, you're right, money was not the driving factor. But I wonder who they expect to pay for pre-natal care for all those fetuses they want to save.

14. That's an interesting question. On one hand, they'd likely say...
that the fetus is innocent and didn't choose to be uninsured.

On the other hand, that means the parent must have made a poor decision -- in their eyes -- and does that mean the children should suffer?

If they say no, then that brings up the Dream Act as well as various social services they want to demolish.

6. Very true, but hypocrisy is also a natural product of percieved changed circumstance.
Perceptions of circumstance can result from real change or simply a change in the scope of information considered. The implications of perceived change can be seen at levels of global personal problem solving. Those things which were advocated under an original state of perception will no longer be advocated when perceptions transforms into a changed state.

This is consistent with the best defenses against accusations of hypocrisy being to argue either that circumstance has changed or that available information about circumstance has changed.

It seems that one of the few things that will remain constant amid shifting perceptions is that, the individual usually promotes self-interest under all states of perceived circumstance (rare acts of seeming altruism not withstanding).

10. The Republicons did their hypocrisy thing in Group Formation last night
Their Terry S. flip-flopping hypocritical betrayal (R) should be noted by all Americans -- because it is standard for Republicons in These Latter Days.

11. Would be interesting to find one and ask them, had
Schiavo had no insurance, should she have died?

And should pregnant women who would have to go on welfare get abortions? Even if they want the child?

Their true agenda is always some other thing.

13. But was her care being paid for by taxpayers in any way?
Isn't that what their reply would be?

I don't remember the specifics of that case, though I tend to block out uber right-wing craziness after a few years.

15. that's not the question I'd put to them: I'd ask them should she have died
if she hadn't had the family/personal resources to pay for her care.
