Tea Party Audience Cheers Letting The Uninsured Die
By David Edwards

The audience Monday night’s CNN Tea Party Express Republican primary debate was eager to see the death of a hypothetical man who was in a coma and also did not have health care insurance.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer posed this question to Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul: “A healthy young, 30-year-old man has a good job, makes a good living but decides, ‘You know what? I’m not going to spend $200 or $300 a month on health insurance because I’m healthy, I don’t need it.’ But something terrible happens, all the sudden he needs it. What’s going to happen if he goes into a coma? Who pays for that?”

“What he should do is whatever he wants to do,” Paul replied. “That’s what freedom is all about, taking your own risks. This whole idea that you have to prepare to take care of everybody…”

“Are you saying society should just let him die?” Blitzer asked.

The audience responded with shouts of “Yes!

1. Not surprising, really.
The defining trait of narcissists is they lack empathy.

3. The Teabaggers represent the id of the Republican Party.
Their dark, nasty, souls, devoid of compassion. Just fucking evil.

4. Ron Paul practices health care via judgement? It sounded like
Blizer asked Paul about his govt. insurance after he claimed socialism is what this guy is counting on to bail him out..

10. It was particularly chilling -- it was worse, in my view, than the cheers for the death penalty --
give Ron Paul his credit, he addressed the question in his own libertarian way, and said, young people should have the choice to not buy insurance, and if they suddenly need care, the government should not take care of them, BUT, they SHOULD be taken care of by churches and other charities --

the way that audience called out for death like Romans in the stands at the Colisseum, pointing their thumbs downward -- well, it was especially chilling. Because those are the VERY people that Ron Paul might hope would actually contribute, charitably, to save those who need saving (as, in his mind, the government should not) --

but the way they shouted, "let him die" tells me that not only are they unwilling to pay taxes to the government to help save him; they are just as unwilling to cough up a little when some local, neighborhood son heeds some help.

12. If you are injured on the street unable to respond pray they can find your insurance card.
If there is no means to pay you are going to die. Expect no help from first responders. If you are comatose you will also die when you can no longer use your resources to pay for your care. The Republican world is a cash and carry world pay nothing expect and get nothing government is after all inconsequential.

16. i bet Wolf is getting emails asking for the uninsured man's address
so they can go to his house and finish him off.

I can picture Wolf patiently explaining it was just a hypothetical. ;-)
