FBI holds ex-NYPD officer after KCI scare
Federal officials are holding a man that caused the scare Sunday at the Southwest terminal of Kansas City International Airport.

According to the FBI, the man is on a 20-hour hold.

A federal complaint could be filed against the man for causing the scare.

If the complaint is filed, the man could appear before a federal judge to hear charges.

1. Bizarre.. so what was the item?
You'd think however embarrassing he'd give it up or let them inspect it, rather than what he knew would be deep kimchee for refusing.
Very strange.

3. Don't know yet. One story said they found "parts" that could be made
into something, and when they asked to inspect the carry on, he started screaming about his 4th amendment rights. They did call out the bomb squad, but they didn't find explosives in the carry on. The details are very sketchy right now.

5. Update: Suspect in KCI bomb scare allegedly warned screeners they’d be sorry
http://www.kansascity.com/2011/09/12/3137805/kci-bomb-scare-suspect-allegedly.html

Federal authorities charged a 47-year-old man Monday with trying to pass a “simulated improvised explosive device” through security screening at Kansas City International Airport on Sunday.

Prosecutors also moved to detain Anthony Falco Jr. pending trial in the matter.

Falco, who has lived in Pennsylvania and New York, made his first appearance in federal court late this afternoon.

(snip)

While airport police dogs sniffed the packages, Falco began chanting Bible verses and appeared to pray, saying, “Father God, America is going to go down,” according to the affidavit.

Later, officers reported Falco as saying something like, “You guys are going to be sorry if you open those packages,” and “Whoever opens my bag is going to have a very bad day.”

(end snip)
