WHY is Anthony Weiner's district in jeopardy of going Repub?
It's been in Democratic hands for 90 years, FGS! Is it just an indictment of Weiner? Pretty dumb and self-destructive reason if so.

1. I think it going to end up in Democratic hands
All these polls are just shit based on the history of that seat.

4. Huh? That's the point.
The history is Democratic, the polls favor a Rethug.

5. I think some of these are trying to deflate democrats
and suppress voter turnout which will likely work in the Democrats favor. A lot of bluster from folks, but in the end, my prediction is that it will end up in Democratic hands once again.

16. The pollster (PPP) is D-leaning
The numbers are a mix of anger at Obama for the economy and a jinned-up "pro Israel" campaign targeted at Jewish voters. That said, this is an off-year election with very low participation that will be dependent on Party structure for turnout.

2. we are losing the district because
the repubs are scaring the shit out of the jews in that district...they have made Weprin, an orthodox jew, look like an anti israel muselim extremist and Obama as a nazi....it's really sad. Plus, Weprin was the dem candidate by default and he's not a good one either...had to guess the national debt when asked and was to scared to debate the repub.

10. Weprin is a piss poor party hack.
And they had some bloody nerve running him.

They LIKED Weiner.

13. Nobody else would run because the district will be gerrymandered out of existence soon.
I want to add another component to what dennis4868 said:

David Weprin (D) has centered his campaign on a promise to protect Social Security and Medicare. But he has not won support from voters 55 and older, which makes we worry that we Democrats have already lost the moral high ground regarding these social programs.

3. Yes it is self destructive
Maybe a bit childish by his district to fire back at Dems like this with the way they treated Weiner. But in a Democratic system sometimes voters choose to vent this way.

18. No.
I just don't see why Weiner's behavior would turn people to the Republicans. A lot of Repukes have sexual indiscretions too. That's not a political issue.

7. Because Anthony was a pervert!
But not just a pervert a democrat. If he'd been a republican pervert like Dave Vitter he'd still have a job.

8. Maybe they did their research better than we did.
And it is disgusting that you still blame the victim of a well-financed, deliberately-targeted attack.

9. It could be much bigger than Weiner. Not to sound mean spirtied
but the National Democrats have done little to make
the case for Democratic, Progressive ideals or ideas.

Instead they have permitted Republicans and Tea Party
types dominate television coverage. If the people only
hear one side, they are only going to know one side
and their views.

12. That is a good point as well
I think the Dems may have been caught flat footed, but lets hope it is all hype and Dems prevail in this district.

14. Like usual when you see something like this, it may happen because
there is a core group that usually is dependable that for some issue moves in the opposite direction. Here the issue is that a major leader of the Orthodox Jewish community endorsed the Republican because he is angry with Obama's policy on Israel, because it is not pro Israel enough. (Yes, I know the reality is the administration has already said that they will veto the Palestinian statehood vote - though US policy has long been for a two state solution. This will have us standing as one of few on that side and will very likely hurt our standing in the world.) This DEMOCRAT wants to make the vote a referendum on Obama's Middleeastern policies.

It is not about Weiner.

17. Because it's conservative and the Dem candidate is a disaster
That is why.

Don't think this is some wildly progressive district. It's not.
