4. Some country music singer was doing a song right before Obama spoke (right now)
It was filled with such goodies as:

"I don't know the difference between Iraq and Iran"

and other ignorant dumbass "patriotic" nonsense

unbelievable

That is almost the anthem for 9/11 at this point. I am glad sometimes that I do not have a TV feed out here in the boonies.

11. I didn't see it but that line comes from the song
Where Were You by Alan Jackson. I think it is by far the best song ever recorded from the 9/11 tragedy and there is absolutely no dumbass patriotic nonsense or jingoism in it of any kind or political message for that matter. Is this it?

how you believe that this song isn't filled with jingoism, it's rife with it - especially the line about the flag.

33. Jingoism lines
Did you shout out in anger
Did you burst out in pride for the red, white and blue
I'm not sure I can tell you the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
Did you dust off that Bible at home?
Or go out and buy you a gun?

38. Oh he mentions God, anger, the red white and blue
and a buying a gun. It's the thoughts that people had on that day some were angry, some went to the bible for answers, some people went out and bought a gun and people put flags out. He doesn't agree or disagree with any of it he is just asking the question. (What went through your mind on that day?) He also asked if you thought of the heroes that died helping the people. Do the police and firemen that lost their lives trying to help offend you? He asked if you thought about your own family, does that offend you? He asked if you thought about the child that died in the attack, was that offensive? I don't see anything jingoistic about the flag, the bible, being angry or buying a gun. Now if it was Toby Keith singing about putting a boot up someones ass or Lee Greenwood I would agree but Alan Jackson's song, give me a break.

12. Oh my God! It's so offensive!
:sarcasm:

"Where Were You (When The World Stopped Turning)"

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you in the yard with your wife and children
Or working on some stage in L.A.?
Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke
Risin' against that blue sky?
Did you shout out in anger, in fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry?

Did you weep for the children who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know?
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below?
Did you burst out in pride for the red, white and blue
And the heroes who died just doin' what they do?
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself and what really matters?

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell
you the difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith, hope and love are some good things He gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?
Were you teaching a class full of innocent children
Or driving down some cold interstate?
Did you feel guilty 'cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone?
Did you call up your mother and tell her you loved her?
Did you dust off that Bible at home?

Did you open your eyes, hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep?
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Or speak to some stranger on the street?
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Or go out and buy you a gun?
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watchin'
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns?

Did you go to a church and hold hands with some strangers
Did you stand in line and give your own blood?
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love?

And the greatest is love.
And the greatest is love.

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?

There is no patriotic jingoism in it whatsoever not even a political view of any kind. Every time I hear it brings tears to my eyes. I don't recall Alan Jackson ever making any kind of political statement in his music and as a matter of fact I am pretty sure he is a Democrat.

21. My only guess is -
A) He's a country singer
B) He mentioned Iraq and Iran (though only in passing)
C) He mentioned God

Somehow those added up to a "song of jingoism" and "Breathtaking suckage" ...

39. I don't think they understood the lyrics
There is simply no patriotic jingoism there. I think they heard a couple of words, taken out of context, and a kneejerk reaction ensued.

Kind of what the tea party right wingers do on a daily basis. It isn't flattering, and hopefully, when the OP reads the entire lyrics, he/she will re-evaluate their opinion.

42. Mr Guthrie's old Buddy Pete Seeger is 92
and still out there from time to time.

Speaking of Pete Seeger and Doc Watson anyone with Netflix instant viewing should watch Mr. Seeger's show Rainbow Quest. Several episodes including an incredible one with Doc Watson and also the Stanley Brothers. It is one of the few recordings of a Carter Stanley performance as it was made not too long before he died.

The video is rough and in B&W with glorious mono sound.
