Tritt Pulls Out Of Joplin Concert After Uproar
JOPLIN, Mo. -- Country music star Travis Tritt has canceled his appearance in Joplin at a 9/11 concert because of controversy of how the concert was being funded.

The Joplin Globe reports Tritt pulled out on Friday, a day after the city's Convention and Visitors Bureau announced he would headline a free concert Sunday.

City Manager Mark Rohr told the City Council on Tuesday that the Community Foundation of Southwest Missouri was providing money from a tornado relief fund to cover costs of the concert. Rohr said there would be opportunities for people to donate, and money collected from the concert would be returned to the fund.

A Globe story Friday detailing the arrangement sparked outrage among many over disaster donations being used to pay for a concert.

1. Morons. What if they did not get ONE donation at the concert.
This is theft,pure and simple.

2. Can't be too careful where you donate your money. This is good
example of donated money being used in an illegal or unethical manner.

3. "...opportunities for people to donate..."
Which begs the question, would "money collected from the concert would be returned to the fund" BEFORE or AFTER the concert expenses were covered? Would they "return" whatever was "left" after everyone got paid?

Props to Tritt for pulling out.

4. FWIW, here's the article from the Joplin Globe that gives more info.

They apparently planned to reimburse the disaster donation fund with money donated at the concert.
