Boy was I wrong. It's been one commercial after the other using the incineration of 3,000 people to promote corporate profits. Verizon used children and the Statue of Liberty. Budweiser's horses bowed toward the empty hole where the twin towers stood. Corporate logos follow tear jerking images in crass exploitation of human tragedy. Corporate fascist propaganda knows no bounds or consideration for the truth or humanity.

Maybe this is an opening for corporations to begin using fatal traffic accidents, deadly hurricanes, earthquakes and tsunamis to promote their products.

I can see it now:
Announcer, "235 people kill in an airline crash today. Sponsored by Budweiser. Be sure to catch the latest images while enjoying a cool drink and comfortable chair."

4. Football is the LAST place to go to escape jingoism
Hell, the last time I watched the super bowl, it felt like I was watching an afternoon-long recruitment ad.

5. Why do you think I TiVo it?
The NFL has always been jingoistic.

The opening was terrible today - just play the stupid game don't go all into this USA bull. :/

6. That's why I haven't watched one second of the coverage
I'm not watching football either, but hubby is glued to it. He's good at flipping during any commercial, though.

7. I realize the politics of football. It is even more so with NASCAR.
The NASCAR announcer said yesterday that they were the most patriotic sport. (They obviously don't know the definition of patriotism.) I can under stand the NFL and other sports organizations having a conservative bent. Crass corporately sponsored 'death commercials' is beyond the pale for anyone considering themselves human.
It is a free country and I like it that way. Tillman was in the NFL yet it didn't change his mindset, beliefs and non-beliefs. Physical sports have a element of chance of injury and 'oneupmanship'. That doesn't mean it should be condemned just because it has been co-opted by a wing nut mindset that promotes commercial products using death as the hook.
