9/11 coverage, the Media, Politicians and the great disconnect.
Outside of the inside the beltway pundits, the National MSM and the Usual Suspects from Washington I have seen a lot of people talking about how overblown the coverage is for this anniversary. Dick Cavett called it wallowing in the Times. I think while we are all affected by it and feel deeply about it. It just seems way too much.
Financial blogger Barry Ritholtz put it this way:

"I don’t know if anyone else feels this way, but the relentless 9/11 coverage and tributes feels both ghoulish and exploitative. Sorry, but this is simply too much, I’ve had more than I can take of this. I do not care to spend the entire day crying, but if I watch any more of this coverage that is what will happen."

The point I am trying to make is the disconnect between them and the rest of us.
The American people want higher taxes on the rich and to leave SS and Medicare alone.
What do we hear from Washington and the MSM? More tax cuts and cuts to the entitlements. The American people want Wall Street and other corporations regulated, what do we hear? Less regulation and more "free market" even when it comes to the environment. The American people want us out of Iraq and Afghanistan, the money spent at home to create jobs. What do we get? More military, more war and the coffers are dry for our infrastructure.

It just feels like it's not our country anymore, we just live here.

1. Yup, we ain't watching
And we were directly affected by that day...

We turned it off.

The talk this morning at the farmers market was not 911, but what did you do during the great blackout of 2011.

4. thank you!
I am blessed not to have TV right now, but it is still everywhere. I posted my obligatory requiem on FB but now I am done.

It would be far better to discuss the ten year long WARS and how to end them NOW, that to me would be the best tribute this country could give.
That's my only wish for this day, that we could declare it a real day of peace and reflection, and to bring our troops home and stop feeding the beast of destruction and intolerance...

5. I think most Americans would welcome that.
But that doesn't fit the MSM scenario.

6. I've been very much aware of this today. I went to the gym, and the grocery store, and
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 01:15 PM by enough
saw and heard absolutely NOTHING about 9/11. Nobody talking about it, no signs, no flags, no moments of silence, no bumper stickers. NOTHING.

My husband and his riding buddies stopped off at the local drag racing venue during their ride (bicycles) this morning. Same thing there. No signs, no flags, no moment of silence. Nobody talking about it. NOTHING.

I'm beginning to think the whole thing is a creation of the media/gov/corporate complex, and really is not connecting with the people at large in any way. I think this is very positive sign.

7. It's been manufactured from the beginning...
My own tenth-anniversary celebration included digging out a beachball-sized yellow jacket nest and looking up http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ePCbP3V2XU">this Stan Freberg song. Enjoy.

The corporate media appears less and less relevant each day, and my patience with people who still take them seriously is long gone.
