Porn domain .xxx bans Angelina Jolie and other celebrity/politician names from sites

Politicians and companies have also taken up the chance to ban their names from being linked to the .xxx domain – dubbed the ‘online red light district’ – which started registering sites ahead of its launch in December.

It means cybersquatters will be unable to register names such as BradPitt.xxx and AngelinaJolie.xxx in order to drive traffic to their sites.

The .xxx suffix is designed to provide better online protection for children by making sexual content more identifiable so it is not accidentally stumbled upon.

Its management company, ICM Registry, has already reserved 15,000 names at the request of child protection agencies and governments.

ICM’s Stuart Lawley said they included commonly used underage sex terms and names including David Cameron, Margaret Thatcher and Tony Blair.
