10th anniversary: focus on the overwhelming goodness of man
The 10th anniversary of 9/11 is upon us, and while we should remember all of the innocent lives lost, we should also remember the overwhelming kindness, community, and self sacrifice made by countless Americans. 9/11 should not be remembered because of the terror, but because of the love that was bred by strife. Human kind is at it's core exactly that, kind, and I can scarcely remember a time when Americans cared more about each other than immediately after 9/11. Unfortunately we diverged from that, we got wrapped up in fear and boogie men and pejoratives (patriot act / freedom fries). Let's put the pain behind us, and remember it as a time when we put aside our differences (if only for a moment) and loved each other as humans are supposed to.

3. Poster #1's response is very sad and not universal.
Some, like you and I and other millions, felt what you say in your OP, at least in the short run. Some, like poster #1 and others, felt the opposite and seem to still be projecting that. Yeah, the world can be a crappy place, especially for the last decade. We know that. But if you throw out some love into the universe, you may get some back. Throw out hate and anger and fear, I guarantee that what's returned to you. And that's not good.

7. Thank you
I am disappointed in these DUers, if we as liberals don't believe that people at their core are good, what the he'll are we working towards? Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons is counterproductive

14. People are NOT good (just look at the Tea Party)
Republicans are most certainly NOT good: they are selfish, hateful bigots. I hate them and blame THEM for everything that is wrong with this country.

13. And "If you're not with us, you're against us."
I remember the requirement not to criticize because "we're at war" (as if that makes a difference).

11. I caught a clip today of all the people helping others, that
COUNTLESS boats headed in to pick up people -- boats of all sorts. Remember, we didn't know what was going on then, they were putting their lives at risk, too, to help those who had been affected.

The goodness of human beings really did rise to the surface.

Sadly, the Bush administration was probably rubbing their hands together in glee having been handed the perfect excuse to attack Iraq. And even though it wasn't valid, they made it so.

And again sadly, our humanity was replaced by fear and hatred and that aspect of our citizenry continues to grow, in my opinion.

12. I listened to man who was in the second building this morning
Edited on Sun Sep-11-11 09:52 PM by ProudToBeBlueInRhody
He said people were assisting one another down the stairs, especially those who were disabled. And the first responders were moving their way up, to get to more people who needing assistance higher up. There was no pushing or shoving.

These stories are overlooked, but need to be mentioned for all the people who only wish to comment on how awful, greedy and selfish we all are.
