3,000+ people are going to die today...
of heart disease and cancer (of all sites.)

I'm betting that the research into health is probably not as well funded as defense research of late.

1. yeah, but it would be natural causes and not someone wrongly taking their life
not that i disagree with more funding for research. and needing cuts in defense areas.

2. Really? And it's not wrongly taking their life to spend money on something that takes from them?
We only have so many dollars, so when we spend money foolishly chasing shadows we waste money that could have gone to research or to treatment of disease.

11. Over 200 of those will be people who were denied life saving treatment
so some CEO can get the faucets on his 3rd yacht gold plated. 100,000 a year die because of shit like this.

That is deliberate.

3. I'm 68 and my entire life they have been looking for a "cure" for
all kinds of diseases. Big pharma doesn't want any cures; cures aren't profitable, but they sure can a lot of "treatments" and each new pill costs 3 times what the old one did (which apparently didn't work all that well). I'm not giving to research until they find something, anything, that isn't just another treatment. If you pay people to look for something chances are they will never find it. Put a billion in a trust fund for the first one who comes up with a real cure and you'd have one in a week or less. Just my opinion.

4. Not to mention those who will die because they don't
have access to health care.

And yet, how much have we pissed ourselves because of this?
And we are diverting money away from research that could save as many or more people than died on 9/11 in a couple weeks, if we can reduce the number of people who die every day by 100 or so.

6. We have to spend all our money on keeping men's penises hard
for 4 hours and 'ready to go at a moments notice'. That seems to be far more important.

7. I agree with your sentiment. Also, 3,000 will starve to death today, and we can dam sure do ...
we could certainly do something about starvation world wide for a whole lot less than we spend on our military.

8. Starvation we can guarantee we can do something about.
Edited on Sat Sep-10-11 01:56 PM by originalpckelly
The research obviously doesn't guarantee as much, but the starvation is something that can be solved. I'm guessing the number is around the world and not in the US.

9. Yep, put the grain in the ships and the perishables in airplanes
If we can ship troops all over the face of the earth at a moment's notice we can dam sure haul sacks of rice around and fly tubs of milk and meat to the most remote locations where it is required. No one should starve.
