Venezuela protests US sanctions, demands 'proof'
CARACAS — President Hugo Chavez challenged US President Barack Obama to prove US claims that four senior Venezuelan officials are involved in drugs and arms trafficking, as the foreign ministry formally protested US sanctions on the officials.

Washington on Thursday accused the Venezuelan officials of aiding the leftist Colombian guerrilla group FARC and put them on a list of narcotics kingpins subject to sanctions.

"I challenge president Obama to show proof of this outrage," Chavez told reporters at the Miraflores presidential palace in Caracas.

The US move "is part of the Yankee empire's determination to place Venezuela one day on the list of failed states or ... countries that support terrorism," Chavez said.

1. Nothing they'd love more than doing the 'Libya scenario' to Venezuela and Cuba

Since Obama is known to deliver, and since the times are so crazy...

Watch out, Venezuela.

What a sick, sick country we are. :nuke:

is pretty sick, in my book.

4. That's as lame as lame gets.
Why don't you show us evidence to justify your accusations. I'm open to hear the truth.

13. Provide some evidence how Venezuela should "watch out" because Obama is "known to deliver"...
...a potential "Libya scenario."

Projection? I'm not the one making shit up out of thin air with absolutely nothing to back it up.

14. Venezuela is not an imperial power.
It is not attempting to establish military hegemony over the rest of the world.

Because he's taking after Gaddafi?

19. "We" don't have plenty of Oil.
Edited on Sat Sep-10-11 10:51 AM by bvar22
"Our" oil belongs to the Global Corporations and Wall Street speculators.

If you're really nice to them,
they may sell you some at an enormous profit.

OTOH, The Venezuelans actually own a percentage of their oil,
and have diverted a percentage of those profits to:
*Heal the Sick

*Feed the Hungry

*Educate the Ignorant

*House the Homeless

I can understand why so many Americans HATE Chavez and the Populist Reforms sweeping across Latin America.
Something like THAT could catch on.
"The worst enemy of humanity is U.S. capitalism. That is what provokes uprisings like our own, a rebellion against a system, against a neoliberal model, which is the representation of a savage capitalism. If the entire world doesn't acknowledge this reality, that nation states are not providing even minimally for health, education and nourishment, then each day the most fundamental human rights are being violated."
----Bolivian Reform President Evo Morales

FDR said much the same thing in 1944 with his Economic Bill of Rights,
but THAT "Democratic Party" no longer exists.

VIVA Democracy!
I hope we get some here soon!

You will know them by their WORKS,
not by their excuses.

Solidarity!

17. Although I agree that we're a sick country, I don't think yours is a plausible
conjecture. And though I'm not a big Obama supporter, I think you're demonizing him and that it's silly.

18. That will never, ever happen
Sure, there will be some diplomatic back and forth as long as Chavez and his crew are on the scene - but those kinds of spats are quite normal in international relations. It's almost as if you've convinced yourself that a US attack on Venezuela is imminent and are reacting to this non-existent scenario.

16. Most of the bad faith
has been consistently exhibited by American foreign policy. Point, counterpoint. Proof required. Simple enough and I think Venezuela has had constant oversight of this issue where evidence has been planted to make it this old charge appear true. It seems vigilant to avoid getting involved in such a way, not just to avoid getting caught. Mostly what Venezuela does in influence is by economic and political clout. Cuba never really had such power and its own survival long ago had it draw back from getting too active in armed revolts. Still despite US bad faith everywhere in these issues let's examine the proof this time. Hope it is better than captured hard drives and propaganda.

20. Venezuela had better watch out!
The US has plenty of Freedom Bombs left over,
and people who say "NO" to the Global Banks, Global Oil Corporations, and Global Banks
go on the Short List.

Venezuela (and their oil) belongs to the Venezuelans.
Chavez has been elected and re-elected through Fair, Transparent, Verifiable elections,
monitored and certified by International Agencies. (I wish WE had that.)
It is none of our business.

Viva Democracy!
I hope we get some here soon.

Solidarity!
