Growing Anger, Despair and Frustration Across America; The Calm Before the Storm?
http://www.opednews.com/articles/Growing-Anger-Despair-and-by-michael-payne-110907-170.html

Have you ever experienced that feeling just before a massive storm hits, as the skies darken, when you can feel a mounting pressure and intensity in the air, and there is this eerie silence; when you know it's going to be a bad one but you don't know exactly when it's going to erupt? The American people, though greatly stressed and frustrated remain passive, submissive and largely silent. But is this, in reality, merely the calm before the storm?

Every since the housing collapse triggered the recession that began in 2008, millions of Americans have been battered and beaten down, struggling to find jobs and stay afloat during this dire crisis in their lives. They watch as this government that should be attacking these problems has become totally dysfunctional, collapsing under the weight of a broken and corrupted political system.

But with all this pain and suffering, personal setbacks and the prospect of more and more of the same, the people of America remain in a form of semi-paralysis, full of fear and apprehension, but not protesting; seemingly unable to vent their mounting anger.

Those in the field of psychology would tell us that this is not a good condition. Keeping things inside, allowing problems to fester without relief, can be extremely harmful, both physically and mentally. People under such stress and tension in their lives often come to the point where life has lost its meaning and that's when unexpected things can easily happen. What are the people of America to do, where can they go, who can they turn to in their greatest time of need? Can they continue to wait and hope that this president or this Congress will respond to their needs?

2. Hundreds of years back it was "let them eat cake"
Now its "leave them homeless, hungry, and destitute", but the outcome will probably be the same.

The sad part is theres no reason for it to happen, the wealthy dont NEED anything else, its now just an ego exercise.

A broken political system which cannot adress the issues of
A dysfunctional economy in the context of
A rapidly degrading ecosystem.
So where to start?

7. Nation despairs over purple prose, hackneyed metaphors, and hyperbole
A recent poll revealed that citizens in increasing numbers are becoming alarmed at the growing spate of cheesy psychological appeals to fear and negativity. Increasing their angst is the overwrought language ....

oh hell, you've got to be kidding me. The people of America remain in a form of semi-paralysis? Life has lost its meaning? Funny, I walked down Michigan Avenue just the other day and people, hardly paralyzed, seemed to be engaged in all kinds of things.

The long-term unemployed are most definitely having terrible problems these days (as any long-term unemployed person has in other times, only now their numbers are greater). Our sympathies should be with them and our efforts to help unstall this economy by any means possible should be at the top of our agenda. But this kind of over-the-top portrait of a nation of depressed zombies is ridiculous. Someone needs to be slapped.

8. powerful article...
but i think the American people, while seething, are really lazy at heart.

it would take several katrinas to get the populace riled up enough...but if we keep having the droughts, flooding, etc....

10. The thing I don't get is: why is ANYONE on the right angry?
Seriously: what does ANYONE to the right of center have to be angry about these days? The right has gotten EVERYTHING they've ever wanted: the labor movement's achievements have all been dismantled; the media is controlled by right-wing think tanks; their beloved rich own the government and have even installed righties in Dem clothing to do their bidding...I mean, I can see why the left is angry. But the right wing? Seriously, republicans: you've won everything - what MORE could you possibly want?

12. It all. The Whole Kitchen Sink and Kaboodle.
They'll stop at absolutely NOTHING to get it. They don't want to govern. They want to rule.

It's kind of like the idiots at the 2005 Coronation; we couldn't figure out why anyone from the right was there holding up "liberal media" signs. "Waaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!! Everything's going RIGHT for us, but teh lib'ruls, blax and geighs are still alive!!! It's not ENOUGH!!!"

11. Here? Pssh
If we had any fight in us, the streets would already be ankle deep in the blood of hate radio hosts and billionaires. Why would we suddenly wake up and fight?
