Another poster made me think about this. FIRST AID
I know what to do in an emergency. As a former trained medic I go into emergency mode and start going over protocols in my head every time I have had to get involved.

But to all of you who have no clue where to start.... find your LOCAL red cross chapter, and when they are having a first aid course.

You should at least take the eight hour first aid course.

If you can sneak it in. also take the AED\ CPR course.

You never know when you might have to use it. I prefer American Heart Association for the CPR shtick... but find out about the Red Cross. They offer the classes pretty much anywhere, including your local Y. They charge a small fee, and that course will help you know what to do.

2. Thank you for this
A while back I asked DUers if they knew CPR or ACLS.

Very many did.

Thank you for this great reminder to learn or maintain your skills.

to know either ACLS or PALS... that is quite specialized, But simple BLS, yes.

5. I agree
Everyone who is physically capable should know and be able to practice basic life support.
