Finally... The President Is Taking My Advice...
:hide::evilgrin::hide:

:hi:

The President:

No single individual built America on their own. We built it together. We have been, and always will be, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all; a nation with responsibilities to ourselves and with responsibilities to one another. Members of Congress, it is time for us to meet our responsibilities.

Every proposal I've laid out tonight is the kind that's been supported by Democrats and Republicans in the past. Every proposal I've laid out tonight will be paid for. And every proposal is designed to meet the urgent needs of our people and our communities.

I know there's been a lot of skepticism about whether the politics of the moment will allow us to pass this jobs plan - or any jobs plan. Already, we're seeing the same old press releases and tweets flying back and forth. Already, the media has proclaimed that it's impossible to bridge our differences. And maybe some of you have decided that those differences are so great that we can only resolve them at the ballot box.

But know this: the next election is fourteen months away. And the people who sent us here - the people who hired us to work for them - they don't have the luxury of waiting fourteen months. Some of them are living week to week; paycheck to paycheck; even day to day. They need help, and they need it now.

I don't pretend that this plan will solve all our problems. It shouldn't be, nor will it be, the last plan of action we propose. What's guided us from the start of this crisis hasn't been the search for a silver bullet. It's been a commitment to stay at it - to be persistent - to keep trying every new idea that works, and listen to every good proposal, no matter which party comes up with it.

Regardless of the arguments we've had in the past, regardless of the arguments we'll have in the future, this plan is the right thing to do right now. You should pass it. And I intend to take that message to every corner of this country. I also ask every American who agrees to lift your voice and tell the people who are gathered here tonight that you want action now. Tell Washington that doing nothing is not an option. Remind us that if we act as one nation, and one people, we have it within our power to meet this challenge.

President Kennedy once said, "Our problems are man-made - therefore they can be solved by man. And man can be as big as he wants."

1. How long has Obama known that people are living paycheck to paycheck?
People needed help over two years ago when Obama and the Dems had the majority

3. I guess you'll be supporting him from now on, then,
since he took your advice. I'll look forward to that.

7. Hell Man... There's Almost A Year Until The Dem Convention... We Shall See
Lots can happen... both good and bad. Plus... I prefer my candidates to EARN my vote.

The United States 2012 Democratic National Convention, in which delegates of the Democratic Party will choose the party's nominees for President of the United States and Vice President of the United States in the 2012 national election, is scheduled to be held during the week of September 3, 2012.

4. Coming from a man who waited 30 months to give this speech.
Where was this push in 2009 when he had majorities that could have easily passed it?

Oh yeah, entrenching the profitability of the predatory health insurance industry.

6. With all due respect, if the
President had taken your advice, he could not have done what he did tonight.

11. It was finally a calling out of GOP priorities without calling them by name --
before an audience of millions of us who are the employers of the legislature, he asked whether we'd rather save a tax loophole or fund the hiring of some of our fellow citizens who have been unemployed for more than 6 months.

Yes I was uncomfortable with the use of too much Republican framing-- but even so, he asked some questions to a very big audience about our national priorities. We actually would much rather continue using our tax dollars to help the poor, rebuild our infrastructure (Tweety was a pill about that. With an attentive education it is a cool word we could all enjoy using.), strengthen our safety inspections, etc.

He called out the extremists who want to toss out all government and asked them to get real too. And cited Lincoln, the Republican, as his patriotic mentor for prioritizing the public good, even in a time of civil war.

I'd say it was a masterful bringing out into the open of the priorities of the lunatic fringe on the right. Do they really want to protect the super rich that much?

Regarding the payroll tax cuts that I really don't support, my little Pollyanna hope would be that we're cutting taxes for those who really need the cuts, and then will need to get more revenue from those who have gotten the lion's share for the past 20 years.

Then he really needs to hold the GOP publicly accountable for each and every spending offset they suggest. Speaker Boehner, do you really want to cut heating assistance for the elderly and infirm to save that special tax exemption for your largest donor?

That will be the key. Can we get the Republicans to answer those questions? And their supporters-- do they really want to spend their taxes on Exxon, rather than FEMA?
