Executed prisoners are main source of Chinese organ donations
Chinese authorities launch a national donation scheme, as death-row figures are revealed

Two-thirds of organ donors in China are executed prisoners, state media reported today, as health officials launched a national donation system. snip

"Transplants should not be a privilege for the rich," said Huang Jiefu, vice-minister for health.

He said written consent was required from condemned prisoners but added that they were "definitely not a proper source for organ transplants".

He told China Daily that some hospitals ignored the rules because of high profits. The newspaper said experts estimated that more than 65% of donors were criminals who had received the death penalty.

8. Sad, is it not? That even a maniac gov from Texass is so bad
That even our imaginations would assign this type of heinous action.

Now, I agree that we need tons more donations, organs, skin, and more, and I agree that stem cells offer the best bet for the future, but forcing someone, especially in Texass, which puts to death so many innocents, to donate is little mre than harvesting.

I can see a dying millionaire creating fake evidence, solely to get the liver from an O Negative forced donor. I can see payoffs, bribes, and commercialization of organ donations.

Do they donate before or after the execution?
