Tea party Rep. wants ex-wife sanctioned in child support case
A tea party Republican congressman who reportedly owes over $100,000 in child support has filed a motion to have the court sanction his ex-wife.

Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) is also asking the court to force former wife Laura Walsh to pay his legal bills.

In July, court documents showed that Laura Walsh was suing the congressman for more than $117,000 in unpaid child support.

The lawsuit pointed to a $35,000 loan he personally gave to his campaign, claiming that if he had enough for that, he had enough to help support their 9-year-old child.

In a possible effort to slow down the case, lawyers for the Illinois Republican asked his ex-wife to provide extensive documentation, including records of her employment, salary, bank statements, tax returns and expense reports. After she failed to provide the documents, Walsh sought to have her sanctioned by the court.

Jack Coladarci, Laura Walsh's attorney, told The Sun Times that the move was "harassment."

He added that Laura Walsh was under no obligation to produce the records and that the issue should be Walsh not paying his past-due child support.

11. Oh, no -- they have to rely on their lackeys on the bench to do that.

2. This guy thinks he has juice now that he's in Congress. I hope the
judge slaps him silly and threatens him with jail if he doesn't guarantee the wife at least half of what he owes or goes to jail. It has been done before and he is not special.

9. You do realize that's only $250 a week, right?
($13K a year) They divorced in 2002, so it could be he's not paid any child support at all, which wouldn't surprise me. He's a real ass, if you've ever seen him do interviews.

10. that is what i was curious about
i hadnt known it was 2002. but geez, that would be not paying one friggin month. and if they had him paying a 1000 a month for one child, then he must have been doing ok.

i really dont know anything about this. i havent experienced it, and havent discussed it much.

thanks.

12. I'm just assuming, to be fair.
But the timing seems right. BTW, he's "Roman Catholic", has five kids, and on his second wife. I don't know if wife #2 is the mother of the other four kids.

"...the Tribune, looking more deeply into his troubled driving record, has learned that he lost his driving privileges from mid-April to mid-July of this year because he let his high-risk car insurance lapse — the second time in three years his license was suspended."
