Patti Davis on the GOP candidates kissing Reagan's butt
She is also disgusted by it...

Note to Mitt Romney, Rick Perry and especially Newt Gingrich — you can invoke my father's name until your tongues fall out, but you will never be anywhere near his shadow

1. Given Nancy's advanced age, who will they get to "bless" RETHUGS
--on behalf of dearly departed Ronnie-- in the future? Patti? Ron? (Somehow, as much as Michael might want to stake the "true son" claim and spew the RW Reagan-exploitative BS, I suspect there may be strong pushback from the other 2 biological offspring)

4. And this...
"...The moment that would have broken my father's heart was the moment when applause broke out at the mention of more than 200 executions ordered by Rick Perry in Texas. It was stunning and brought tears to my eyes. This is what we've come to? That we applaud at executions?"

5. I agree with her that was the worst moment BUT
Her dad praying about executions didn't stop him from having them -- Pat Brown prayed about them and didn't do them, and Reagan & GOP used that against him.

11. That was absolutely DISGUSTING
and I can't even say that I'm anti-death penalty but I found that applause sickening. :puke:

6. I have to hand it to Ron and Nancy for one thing--they produced open minded kids.

8. I think that was an accident of time and place. And they sent them
to a wonderful very liberal school- the John Thomas Dye School. Auntie Cathryn and Uncle John (yes, that's what we called the headmistress and headmaster) were enormously loving, open minded people. I know that going there had a huge impact on my life.

7. I'm surprised she could even stand to watch that fiasco.

9. Good for her!
Patti and Ron seem to have a very highly developed distaste for the Repukes of today. As well they should.

10. She made an interesting statement about one of the canidates...
"Ironically, the one man on stage who did comport himself with dignity, John Huntsman, is now being dismissed as having not made an impact."

12. I agree with her.
If Obama had to fear any of these clowns, it would be Huntsman, but since he'll never get past the primary, I think President O is safe.

13. Someday a major figure will say,"I didn't leave the Republican party. The Republican party left me."

14. John Dean has said it.
Kevin Phillips has said it.

A number of politicians in my home state of Minnesota, including a former US Senator - Dave Durenberger - and two former (very good) governors - Arne Carlson and the late Elmer L. Anderson - have said it. Carlson and Anderson both endorsed Kerry in 2004.
