Gruesome footage opens animal cruelty trial

Images of emaciated, decomposing dog carcasses, some in feces-covered cages, provided a gruesome start Wednesday to the trial of Diane Eldrup on animal cruelty and torture charges.

Eldrup, 48, who operated Muddy Paws Animal Rescue in Deer Park, was arrested Dec. 16 amid the discovery of dozens of dead animals on the squalid premises.

At the start of Eldrup's trial, which commenced after she rejected a plea deal that could have kept her out of prison, Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Michael Mermel said her neglect of the pets in her care went on for months. In some cases, the animals had been left for so long that "some were nothing more than fur pelts."

But Eldrup's attorney stressed that prosecutors had the burden to prove that Eldrup intended to harm the animals.

"woulda thunk" it? :sarcasm: Off with her head. Ban her from society for life. Recall her football tickets. Take her children. Lock her up for life. Torture her like the animals were. March in front of her home.

This woman - and Vick - are disgusting. And if it were up to me, Vick would have been executed in public when the Eagles lost a playoff game, by means similar to what he did to some of his "losing" dogs.

Vick lost everything. Then earned his way back into millions.

He's a model of prison rehab. Deal with it.

7. Rescue means just that, Rescue. Not doing what this woman did.

She needs a bit of time in a prison somewhere where she has lots of time to think about what she did. However, if it were up to me, she would have to suffer as these animals did.
