Hoffa doubles down, will ‘never apologize,’ blasts Fox News as ‘anti-worker’
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 02:55 PM by neoconn
Source: The Daily Caller

Some have called Teamsters President James Hoffa’s Monday remarks ill-advised, but he isn’t backing away and, instead, is claiming to have gotten a positive response from his members.

The controversy erupted when Hoffa told a cheering crowd at a Labor Day celebration attended by President Obama, “We are at war! . . . President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march . . . Let’s take these sons of bitches out, and give America back to an America where we belong.”

In a cable TV appearance on MSNBC’s “The Ed Show” on Tuesday, Hoffa told host Ed Schultz about the response and how his tough-sounding tack has resonated.

“The phones rang off the hook at all of our locals today,” Hoffa said. “The members are calling in. Finally, somebody’s standing up for us. Somebody’s saying what has to be said. We’re tired of this namby-pamby talk that’s out there. Let’s go out and call these people what they are. Let’s go after the issue of voting. Let’s talk about the war on workers. And let’s make sure we mobilize and vote in November. It was a tremendous response today. The phones rang off the hook in tremendous support from working families.”

56. A little bit off subject but Jimmy Hoffa didn't do anything
different than what the top union officials are doing today...
As for James Hoffa that was what was needed and Obama needs to follow with a speech strongly supporting workers and a real jobs plan and get off of this bipartisan bullshit.

110. Hoffa senior was a different kettle of fish altogether.
Edited on Thu Sep-08-11 10:37 AM by ooglymoogly
If memory serves he was destroyed, imprisoned and finally disappeared when jr. was a child. Nixon pulled out all the stops to destroy him and succeeded when he was finally disappeared when he could no longer be counted on to play ball.

Gossip at the time was that Nixon, attorney Gen Mitchel, the mafia and the EFf BEEE EYE worked in a symbiotic relationship to destroy, put in prison and finally disappear this very powerful figure who, some said, could make or brake presidents; but there was no doubt he could influence elections to the benefit of unions and of the working man. Was he corrupt? Certainly no more corrupt than, just like now, a government that could plan and execute his demise.

6. "Job Creators" versus the Workers
THAT was the entire purpose of Unions. We would be working 7 days a week, with no benefits, no minimum wages, with unsafe working conditions, child labor, etc., etc., without UNIONS. So many states, under REPUKE rule, don't even want teach their children this, let alone ENFORCE these hard earned laws. PROFITS above all else. QUALITY OF LIFE for the PEONS is not on their agenda.

Mention the bloody history of the repression of the labor movement. The Haymarket and Ludlow massacres perpetrated by private armed goons or government police and military forces co-opted by corporation money. Joe Hill and all the others who sacrificed their lives so the average worker today enjoys something above minimum or sub-minimum wage sweatshop conditions.Of course the PTB aided and abetted by the SCLM will never allow all that to become common knowledge or even a subject of discussion.

My husband is a Teamster retiree. The phones were tied up at his local all day yesterday with people calling to express support for Hoffa's message. The office manager told me that what surprised her was that 5 managers of local companies who employ Teamsters also called to support Hoffa's message. They include two local metal recyclers, a medical transport firm, an industrial rubber supply firm and a grocery warehouse manager.

15. Not surprised that he's getting huge support. This is what they
do not want revealed, that he really did speak for the people which scares the hell out of the Kochs, Fox, and the rest of the treasonous ant-American workers whose goal is to kill the middle class in this country. They started a war on America's workers, now they're whining when someone takes their challenge. I don't know what made them think no one would fight back.

I bet he's getting huge support. People have been literally starved for a leader who would stand up strongly against these parasites on a decent society.

I hope he not only NEVER apologizes, but goes even further, so they learn that all their whining will do is get MORE people attacking them, as they deserve, and after a while they will quit their whiny 'we want an apology' nonsense.

There is no such thing as a anti-union Democrat.

Of course I know that there are people who think they are Democrat and people with a D beside their name who slight the unions. But they are either not really Democrats or they are ignorant of history. Hey. Could be they are both.

The sentence "take out" was preceded by a sentence pointing out that union members need to vote.

That is rather different than Republican comments like second amendmet rmemdies, and ads with cross hairs, and cartoons with shootings and hangings.

58. I'm unrecing
I have no problem with what Hoffa said. But I see a lot of hypocrisy among DU, and others in the media. If a republican had said something similar, there would be talks about how racist they were, etc. Yet a democrat says it, and nobody has a problem with it.

Lets be consistent, either political talks are OK, or they are not.

67. How does race interject in this in any way?
I see this as being stern and committed to what Hoffa believes in.

You made a reference to some being hypocritical (DU and Media) but you are leaving out a critical piece. They (republicans) want to destroy the world. That supersedes playing nice. They treat this like a war and we should treat this like a war.......

Hoffa: “Everybody here has a vote. If we go back and we keep the eye on the prize. Let’s take these sons of bitches out and give America back to America where we belong.”

92. Hoffa's loyalty to the Democratic Party in the face of recent betrayals is an inspiration
I am a third generation Democrat who in 40 years only had cause to vote for one Republican. Jimmy Hoffa jr reminds me why I am a Democrat. I had great hope for Barak Obama but his bi-partisan collusion has shaken me to my core. Party loyalty is now the ONLY reason I remain. In the past decade the Republican Party has become the enemy of the American people. I am giving it ONE more chance tonight. Leaving Jimmy Hoffa alone has been a good choice by the Obama administration.

One last thought I hope they keep Robert Gibbs off the networks he does not help Obama with old Democratic dogs like me.

101. Not a hand wringer, but I'll admit to a little internal squirming whenever anyone...
uses the word "war" to describe social dysfunction. Doesn't matter which position is using belligerent rhetoric.

War on drugs
War on terror
War on taxes
War on workers

On the other hand, I don't know what else to call it when right wing extremists are quite literally advocating for the death of liberals, born and unborn. *sigh* This sucks any way you look at it.

Fox supports the war on the middle class.

The ruling 1% DOES NOT WANT an educated, financially independent, middle class. Such a middle class does bothersome things like organize and demand legislation to restrain monopoly and protect the planet.
