My last word on the Pima County Republican gun raffle
Inspired by a post by another DUer a few days ago, I wrote a letter to the editor of thge Arizona Star. It was published this morning so I thought I'd share.

My letter

Re: the Sept. 2 article "County GOP's gun raffle draws criticism."
I wonder how the Pima County Republicans would feel if someone raffled off a free abortion? Would they find the idea insensitive? Offensive?
They don't seem to understand why people are upset about the Glock.
After all, they say, Glocks are legal and lots of people have them.
Well, abortions are legal and lots of people have them, too, but, you know, some things are just not a good idea no matter how legal they are or how many people have them.
Just saying.

2. Some things just shouldn't be raffled off.
Some years back I was helping on a fundraiser for the school my kids attended, and part of it was a silent auction. Someone suggested we have a kitten or a puppy in the auction. I strongly protested. I had been doing volunteer work at an animal shelter in our area, and saw how many animals were dumped because too many people made careless decisions about acquiring one. I did want want to be party to such a thing.

We did not raffle off a kitten or puppy.
