The House can't possibly accomodate a Presidential Speech on Wednesday, but...
Boehner and Cantor demand on Tuesday afternoon a meeting with the President prior to the speech on Thursday, after the speech was rescheduled from Wednesday to Thursday to accomodate House demands (remember: the House was just too too too busy to have the President speak to them a Wednesday evening).

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2011/09/06/will-obama-meet-with-boehner-cantor/?mod=google_news_blog

<<White House press secretary Jay Carney said he welcomed a letter from House GOP leaders expressing confidence that there could be room for bipartisan agreement on pro-jobs legislation. But he declined to say whether President Barack Obama would accept their invitation to discuss these ideas before the president addresses a joint session of Congress on Thursday.

....

In their letter, House Speaker John Boehner and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor asked the president to meet with the bipartisan leadership of Congress this week to discuss his proposals ahead of the Thursday speech.

Mr. Carney said that the president has been “regularly” consulting with congressional leaders from both parties, and said the ideas he proposes have had bipartisan support in the past. But he said the package is not intended to reflect a bipartisan consensus.>>

On Morning Meeka, sponsored by JoeBucks, both Skankburg and Meeka were appalled, absolutely appalled that there was ANY-ANY hesitation by the President to accomodate Cantor's demands for a meeting on Wednesday prior to giving the President's speech on Thursday.

Does the mainstream media have utter complete amnesia about the fiasco over the scheduling of the speech? Now on the eve of the speech, the President has to drop everything and accomodate the demands of the obstructionist in Congress, the creeps who walked out of meeting during the debt ceiling talks?

Gawd, what stands for journalism these days truly is appalling.

1. Thanks for the blood pressure rise. I am so tired of these
bastards treating the President like their dog. I hope he rises up and rips off their balls and then let's his dog roll them down the corridors of the White House.
 That is all. Thanks for letting me vent.
:hi:

4. for me it is not just the bastards in Congress, but the bastards in the Media too
my capacity to vent is reaching it's limit.

Lucky, DU does provide an outlet--it's good to know, I'm not the only one having to control my blood pressure about these things.

12. I've always known that the US was a racist, bigoted land
filled with misogynists, but the blatant in your face disrespet for the office just stuns me every time. With the kockbros 36 friends we may not be able to overcome the avalanche that is coming.

15. Dont believe that, WT, we'll overcome...but we need to know our enemies
The Corporate Media is not friend to progressive sensibilities.

This country has racist, bigots, and misogynists, (we all have prejudicial demons to overcome), but this country is also full of very respectful humanists--and people who are willing to confront both politicians and media shills who prey on those demons amongst us.

2. The President gave the wrong answer
The Question: We're having a debate Thursday night. Can you move your speech?

The Correct answer: I am the President. No.

3. I certainly would never classify an opinion talk show as any form of journalism.
 Just being on the TV machine does not make one a journalist.

5. True, and yet MSNBC claims to disseminate the news...we shall see which journalists
raise an eyebrow to the last minute demands of Eric Candor for a Wednesday meeting with the President, and juxtapose Cantor's demand with the House's refusal to welcome the President for a Wednesday speech...no more than a week ago.

Whether it is television, electronic or print, I'll not be holding my breath. In fact, I would bet that the general media trend will be to insist that the President meet their demands for a meeting.

Mark Halprin, on Hardball last night, insisted that the President needed to meet with Boehner and Cantor.

10. And the consensus of the others on Tweety
was that it would be a "fools errand" as they termed it. I agree, he should tell them he's too busy. The hell with Halprin, he's a right wing tool.

6. They'll get it too. I am thinking of starting to cloak progressive causes in right wing terms so
Obama will listen.

7. Why should the President give Cantor another opportunity to walk out of a meeting
when they do not hear that everyone single Presidential proposal fails to meet their every priority.

Instead of Thursday being about the President's ideas, the media focus will be on the President's unwillingness to present ideas that Republican's can work with.

The President can not win in this media environment.

If the President meets with Republicans, the Media will turn the meeting into a fiasco.

If the President doesn't meet with Republicans, the Media will focus on the President's unwillingness to even give the Republicans a chance.

Meanwhile, no one will dare mention that the Republicans were too busy to have the President to accomodate the President's speech on Wednesday, but now the Republicans have all kinds of time to embarrass the President on Wednesday.

Am I out in left field on this?

8. Why aren't the media upset that Republicans refuse to do anything at all?
Edited on Wed Sep-07-11 09:03 AM by TwilightGardener
They want Obama to meet them MORE than halfway, or he's not being "bipartisan". THEY don't have to budge an inch.

11. And the motivation for them to budge is that a bad economy helps them politically
Politics trumps the well-being of Americans -- but the Media would rather not delve into that Republican reality.

wrecking the economy, but it never takes hold. I think most middle of the road Americans aren't paying attention to the process, just the results. Which is certainly what the GOP is counting on.

They are a huge part of the problem.

And cantor and boner should go cheney themselves.
