1. From this point the track appears to be more southerly
Right up the gulf or Florida directly maybe?

14. never thought folks would want a hurricane
Just don't let Perry lead a prayer vigil for it to hit. That'll send it to Vermont.

4. How many direct hits from cat 1s+ have you been thru malaise?
Just curious. I'm guessing a lot.

6. Not that many - Jamaica sits in a wonderful position
and her shape means that we have numerous near misses. I remember Allen hitting Portland in 1980. We're also big enough for storms to hit one part of the island - Allen missed the rest of us completely. Then there was Lili in 2002 - hit the North coast but spared the rest of us. Ivan was a 160mph hurricane and we never had a direct hit but he was close enough to destroy large sections of our south coast and scare the crap out of most of us.
The really big one was Gilbert which destroyed us in 1988; Gustav was never a hurricane but TS Gustav changed directions over night and went right through the island just like Gilbert.
Funny we haven't had that many Cat 1s or indeed direct hits from hurricanes, but lots of strong hurricanes coming close enough to our coast to destroy lots of homes, mash up the power lines and flood more areas than I can count.
One more thing - that high surf from tropical storms and hurricanes anywhere in the Northern Caribbean sea can cause serious flooding on our roads. I remember the Central American countries getting hit a few years ago and our Kingston airport road was completely flooded.

Still compared with Haiti and even Cuba Jamaica is the luckiest of the big islands.

9. Yep Jamaica seems to be "dodging" most of them
and the ones that hit, often get ripped apart by the mountains:)

95 is a scary one that looks like it could easily duck under and slip into the gulf:(

11. We'r really small compared with
Cuba and Hispaniola so we rarely face three a four hurricanes in a season like our neighbors.

13. After the tropical storm passed over southern Louisiana, the weather has been
actually cooler, especially in the evenings. My very unscientific opinion is that this cooler air we've been having will push this tropical storm away from the U.S.
