Rick Perry Endorses Janet Porter's Radical 'Heartbeat Bill'

Submitted by Brian Tashman on September 6, 2011 - 3:15pm

After passing the Ohio State House, Janet Porter’s ‘heartbeat bill’ is now poised to have a vote in the Republican-controlled State Senate. Porter, an avowed dominionist who thinks supporters of President Obama are destined to Hell and that legal abortion is responsible for tornadoes, has been leading the fight to pass the ‘heartbeat bill,’ a patently unconstitutional measure that would “ban abortion as early as 18 to 24 days after conception.” She told James Dobson yesterday on his program Family Talk that she thinks her bill will eventually lead to the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade. “We are so close that I can see the end of abortion from here, that’s how close we are,” Porter said, “everything we have prayed is happening…God has been in this from the beginning.”

~snip~

Porter has lost some allies along the way ...

But she has picked up one major endorsement: Texas Gov. Rick Perry. He joins other presidential candidates Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich and Roy Moore in backing Porter’s extreme legislation. According to the statement from Porter’s group Faith 2 Action, Perry announced his support at his meeting with Religious Right leaders at James Leininger’s ranch in Texas where he spoke “before a group of 250 pro-life and pro-family leaders” ...

3. No ... he wants it small enough to crawl inside a woman's body and see what's going on ...
Small enough to slide under you bedroom door and see what kind of sex you have.

4. Why did a heartbeat become the holy mantra?
There's nothing in scripture about a heartbeat.

About the breath of life, oh my, the bible's full of that.

But heartbeat? Jesus said nothing about a heartbeat.

They make stuff up as they go along.
Sadly, most people take their word for it,
and believe all that crap they make up.

And women have nothing to say...
because, ya know, we are subservient to our masters.

right....

Who the hell has an abortion at 24 days?????

God, I feel like there is an ever shrinking group of sentient beings who have an IQ above 110.
How the hell do people that stupid even manage to feed themselves???????

15. I can't tell you how many times I've
wondered how any of these bills, based strictly on religious belief, are even allowed to be considered. They offend and are unfair to my personal beliefs.

10. I always find it interesting
when closeted gay men come out against abortion. Again, if life is actually precious, why isn't the mofo working to get health care as a basic human right?

A death sentence is getting a disease you can't afford. Or perhaps I should put it this way for idiots like Perry: it's a post-birth abortion.

16. These people are trying to take over from every angle...
The worst part about this "Heartbeat Bill" crap is that here in Ohio, we have a common-sense bill called "The Prevention First Act". It mandates that any school choosing to provide sex education to it's students must ensure that it's medically accurate, and it also address the problem of E.R. for rape victims: mandating that emergency rooms must offer Plan B and STI information/support to anyone reporting sexual assault.

But the Ohio House wouldn't hear of it. They brought the Heartbeat fiasco to the floor, but refused to acknowledge the Prevention First Act, which would be instrumental in actually preventing unwanted pregnancies in the first place. It's so frustrating and scary here.

19. "We are so close I can see the end of abortion...." Oh , FFS, they really don't
get it, do they? Make it illegal and they've simply handed it over to the black market, where it will be done at ANY stage of the pregnancy, by anyone -anywhere. Dumbf*cks.

26. Ask them "Why do you want to kill women?"
Because if you outlaw abortion, you will certainly be responsible for killing those women who used to come to the Emergency Room, bleeding profusely from a septic, illegal abortion...

20. Everyone needs to know about this.
This is way too much for the majority of Americans. Most Americans are not this anti-choice. Last I read, most people support the right to abortion with some (or many) limitations.

Better have those babies, ladies, but don't expect any help feeding them! Because an unwanted/uncared for child is the perfect 'punishment' for having sex, don'cha know.

24. Perry is a walking contradiction.
He says he's pro-life but his state has the highest rate of prisoner executions. He says he wants smaller government but wants to make this a law.

What a fucking joke of a bill.

30. He is seriously all over the place
He was a Dem until 1989, endorsed Al Gore in '88, has supported ACORN and their community organizing efforts, some sort of health care reform across the border with Mexico (my memory is faint on that one, so forgive me), and praised Hillary Clinton for her efforts on Health Care reform in '93. He's really all over the place. All that being said, and with what you point out, it's so fun watching the rightwingers I know make excuses for him!

27. They can kiss kidney organ donation goodbye then
because organs are harvested (kidneys) while the patient donor's heart is still beating. They, of course, have had no brain activity for 72+ hours.

Another thing that will be impacted is the ability to shut off life support if someone is "brain-dead." Young, otherwise healthy people's hearts can go on and on and on.

Look at Karen Ann Quinlan. I believe she was 18 years on life support even though "brain-dead." And even after she was taken off the respirator, which her parents had to fight for in court, her heart kept going for about four more years.

This is what happens when the people in charge are unable to think.

32. I cannot believe these guys are married to grown women.
Women who have menstrual periods, and babies, and they know NOTHING about female reproduction.

:banghead: :banghead:

Ron Paul is a LIAR. He said that he never had a patient with a life-threatening pregnancy, meaning they needed an abortion at a late stage. He has delivered over 4,000 babies. That is statistically impossible.
I cannot believe he's never had a patient with an ectopic pregnancy, for example. The tube must be removed before the zygote bursts and kills the woman.
