People I know from Texas are absolutely PISSED at Rick Perry
Their state is dry as a bone and burning so what does Rick Perry do? Campaign.

If Gov. Goodhair wants to look presidential he'd put his campaign on hold and deal with what's happening in his own state. Clearly the "Let's Pray for Rain" method is not working.

My friend from Houston said they didn't see a drop of rain from Tropical Storm Lee and they were hopping they would get something. It's like a giant dome is over that state preventing any water from getting in there. What's worse - all the lakes are dried up too.

2. Yeah, that dome is doom
in the form of pollution. It's so thick there, there likely is a real dome over the state.

7. Actually, the pollution here isn't that bad.
Right now, the majority of our pollution is from the smoke blowing due south, and we're due south of many of those same fires.

The reference to a "dome" was the former high-pressure ridge that was in place for months up until TS Lee. When that ridge moved to the east, we had "high" hopes that Lee would steer our way. No such luck. In Houston, I could see and even watch some of the outer edge clouds going by. They just weren't thunderstorms, so no rain. We did get a break in the heat, though. Lee has also been partially blamed for the fires in how it steered a dry cold front through the state.

You ought to read Dr. Jeff Masters' weather blog and stay informed on this stuff :)

don't like the Gov. telling them what to do and can't do.

water cops roaming the neighborhoods looking for water running over on sidewalks and gutters.

22. A healthy lawn in a drought isn't necessarily an indication of cheating.
So long as you have at least 12" or more of topsoil, you can keep a healthy lawn in the worst conditions. It just requires several years to build up that rich soil so it can hold more water.

Also, most people don't know how to water their lawns. The method I read for organic lawn care used the analogy of a dry sponge. Pour water on it and most of it runs off before it has a chance to sink in. But if you pour only a little bit of water on it, it has time to sink in, making the sponge moist. Now you can add twice as much water and it will soak all of that up without it running off. When you have good topsoil, full of rich organic matter, it acts like that moist sponge for taking in water and holding it :)

18. Yeah, most of the state is on mandatory water conservation.
You may be interested to know we're still running out of drinking water.

None of the golf courses where I am are allowed to water their grass, just so you know. We're not even allowed to water our trees to try and keep them alive anymore.

43. Here in Brazoria we have a burn ban but we don't have
mandatory water conservation. They did ask us to water on alternate days, and I have been doing even less than that. I watered in June/July every few days - for a few hours at most - and it doubled the water bill. So, now I'm just doing it once a week at most to keep the grass/trees alive.

But we are close to the coast - no more than 25 miles out.

31. Mandatory water rationing
Year round there's no lawn watering from 10am - 6pm. Now people are only allowed to water two days a week still from 6pm to 10am only.

9. My Fiscally Conservative, Socially Moderate Dad from Texas Cant Stand Perry
The La Nina effect is mostly responsible for high pressure that has sat over Texas for many months. While fires have devastated the state more than once this year, Perry and the GOP controlled house and senate have been busy slashing funding for departments responsible for fire fighting.

http://www.kvue.com/video/featured-videos/Volunteer-firefighters-in-Texas-struggle-with-financial-crisis-118510059.html

We Texans are not impressed with the Cufflink Cowboy either. Penny wise and pound foolish. But, he did use stimulus money to repair the Governor's mansion which was partially destroyed by fire. Not sure where the funds his $10,000 per month rent is coming from.

28. Perry prayed to Norquist's Gawd of "DestroyThySafetyNet"
Edited on Tue Sep-06-11 04:27 PM by Tsiyu

Including thy public safety net, as he made sure to cut funding 70% for Texas volunteer fire departments.

The answer to those prayers is always the same when these Republican pinheads put lives at risk to give their corporate Masters some more jack.

In this case, specifically, the prayer was answered: "Smaller government means Bigger Fires"

Heartbreaking for the state of Texas.

A warning to the rest of us not to elect Perry or we can expect more of the same for the nation at large.

From him and from his Gawd.

36. And Perry is telling Texans to blame the feds
Just watched a Dallas newscast and the anchor was egging on the station reporter who is down in Bastrop by saying "are the people down there ANGRY with the government..."

The reporter responded that they are more "upset with Mother Nature"---obviously not the response that the anchor wanted. The reporter went on to say that when Perry was touring the area yesterday people were yelling at him "WHERE ARE THE PLANES??" he in turn started his fingerpointing at the feds (gee, shocking, isn't it?).
