Eddie Murphy agrees to host Oscars
http://www.deadline.com/2011/09/update-eddie-murphy-agrees-to-host-oscars-academy-annnouncement-to-come-shortly/
'...Eddie Murphy has officially agreed to host the 84th Academy Awards. Today, Oscar producer Brett Ratner is formally telling the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences that he’s chosen Murphy to emcee the Oscars and an announcement will be made.'

It's gotta be better than last year's show.

3. Then he should have acted better
I think you're referring to his role in Dreamgirls?
Good, but not Oscar-worthy IMO.

6. And he stormed out right after the winner was announced. Out of his seat.
It's a matter of sportsmanship, win some lose some. I guess he hasn't had to audition and be rejected for a long time and he expected he was supposed to win.

2. They could boost ratings by cutting out all the crappola
Edited on Tue Sep-06-11 01:41 PM by SoCalDem
and just televising the main awards..They could do it all in an hour & a half..show the others on E or one of the gazillion other channels:)

They stretch it out to a 3 hour event, and hold the best pic until the end & by then no one has any time to say anything..

Show us the who died montage, and give a few honorary awards.,. play the songs all in a row, and just award the damned awards..let people have more than a minute to say their thank yous, and cut out all the scripted, non-funny/uninteresting "ad lib" banter ..

I have not watched it in ages..I do record it, and whiz through to the awards I want to see.,

I'm also tired of seeing awards shows nominated for emmys..

5. My first reaction was WTF? after recalling his early homophobic rants, but then I found this:
http://joemygod.blogspot.com/2006/12/murphys-1996-apology.html
"I deeply regret any pain all this has caused. Just like the rest of the world, I am more educated about AIDS in 1996 than I was in 1981. I think it is unfair to take the words of a misinformed 21-year-old and apply them to an informed 35-year-old man. I know how serious an issue AIDS is the world over. I know that AIDS isn't funny. It's 1996 and I'm a lot smarter about AIDS now.

I am not homophobic and I am not anti-gay. My wife and I have donated both time and money to AIDS research. I've had people close to me die from the disease as well. I don't know a person who hasn't been touched in some way by this disease. Everybody knows somebody who is sick. Black people have been hit harder by this disease than any other group of people on the planet."

I hope he can make it a fun show.
