Napolitano: Shoes will soon stay on at airport security
Source: Raw Story
By Andrew Jones

You will have one less inconvenience to deal with at the airport in the future.

Homeland Security Security Janet Napolitano told Politico that air passengers will eventually not have to take off their shoes anymore while going through security checks. “We are moving towards an intelligence and risk-based approach to how we screen,” she said. "“I think one of the first things you will see over time is the ability to keep your shoes on."

Napolitano did not detailed what new technology would be able to scan shoes, but did indicate that carrying liquids would still be a no-go. "One of the last things you will is the reduction or limitation on liquids,” she said.

“In terms of what we see coming in the months and years ahead, it will probably be easier and it looks like it will be to deal with the shoe issues before we can remove the restriction on liquids.”

7. +1 ... impress me by trashing the backscatter x-ray
Shoes are trivial compared to naked scanning or full body pat-downs

15. As long as Rumsfeld continues to make money from the scanners, all is well, I guess.

5. Good! I felt like I was going into a federal prison each time I went through airport security!
Just use the intelligence gathered before "9/11s" to stop "9/11s" and we can dispense with this nonsense...

6. It is stupid to have to remove your flip-flop shower shoes and run them through the x-ray machine.
Anyone ever try to go through security and board the plane barefoot?
Surly someone has had to have tried it.

while standing on those funky footprints of freedom?

9. Yeah, but the liquids ban goes on
Remember, kids: a 6-ounce bottle of "shampoo" could be dangerous explosives!

But two 3-ounce bottles of "shampoo" and an empty bottle to mix them in? Perfectly safe.

God save us all from TSA.

12. And contact lens solution
is specifically exempt from these retarded regulations. So now you can be even more irritated about that!

I read a hilarious piece about TSA's liquid-ban inanity somewhere recently (Slate would be a good guess), in which the writer went through security with two 32-ounce bottles of contact solution. The agent never bothered to check to see if the botles actually contained contact solution and, when s/he asked why the writer needed two bottles, s/he was satisfied with the answer, "one for each eye!"

Feel safer yet?

14. When they get rid of Chertoff's Rapiscans I'll cheer.
Until then, this is just to appease the increasing number of Americans who are outraged over the loss of their freedoms.

It was never about security and shame on her for being the one to put the vile 'enhanced pat-downs' into our airports. Who needs Republicans when we have Democrats willing to do what Repubicans failed to do?

With several states and Congress considering banning the vile, constitution-violating methods and Congress considering stopping the funding for them, I guess they had to make a pretext of doing something to reverse the trend that has aroused so much anger here.
