A California man was charged with animal cruelty after he bit a two-foot long python, Fox40 Sacramento reported.

Police were called to a Sacramento neighborhood on Thursday to check on a possible attack victim.

While talking to the “victim,” who had blood in his mouth, another witness told cops that 57-year-old David Senk had taken two large bites out of a live python. ............(more)

1. What a nutcase. I think snakes are often targets for cruelty, however.
One of my neighbors told me she killed a snake that she knew was non-venemous. Beat it with a shovel. Well, there goes one more defense against mice and gophers--thanks, idiot.

3. About 30 years ago, I was visiting relatives at a lakeside cabin...

We were all drinking (a favorite pastime of my family), when the husband of a first-cousin began walking around with one of those grass trimmers used by Paul Newman in "Cool-Hand Luke" (see below). He began randomly killing snakes in the tall grass next to the shoreline. Beer in one hand; "Cool-Hand Luke" grass trimmer in the other. And these snakes were frightened and trying to swim away when he came upon them.

I thought, "What an asshole! Just let them go." This lake was not known for harboring poisonous snakes. Besides, I thought they were fun to watch! I grew up in a Los Angeles suburb and rarely, if ever, saw a snake in the wild.

I remember my uncle telling me, "Never kill a harmless snake. Snakes are territorial and a patch of land will harbor only a certain number of snakes, so when you kill a harmless one, a poisonous one may move in."

Sound advice...

6. That's sad. I don't even want rattlesnakes to be randomly killed, unless
they are on one's property and pose a threat.
