facebook question- does anybody know?
Edited on Tue Sep-06-11 11:23 AM by nutsnberries
there is a *friend* to whom i stopped commenting (many months ago) due to his full-of-shit/teabaggery political views. recently he posted something which showed up in my news feed to which i couldn't resist.
i posted comment, it showed up and then i refreshed the page and it was gone.
i did it again, same thing.
is this what happens when you are blocked from responding? they show up initially and then disappear?
i would love to know if this is the case or if he read my comment and deleted it.

edited to ask another question: is it possible for me to know if he has me blocked from responding?

8. I've had the same problem with pasting
Try hitting the space bar a few times before hitting enter. If that doesn't work, shift/enter, then enter might work.

3. The friend just deleted it
It's easy to do. I stay away from politics on facebook, and frankly, I see very little of it. I have mainly real life friends, and family on it anyway.

5. could be a bug, but it's more likely he's just deleting it each time you post it
he probably finds your opinion as odious as you find his.

oh and it's not that he's blocked you --if that were the explanation, the comment box wouldn't even show and allow you to think you're posting.

9. "comment box wouldn't even show" ? thanks. he usually welcomes opinion
even tho we disagree so intensely and he is certain he is right.

i'm wondering if it's because i pasted as mentioned above. i think i'll try one more time w/o pasting.

15. sometimes FB is buggy and your post will only intermittently appear
but that said, there's another explanation based on the heavy duty disagreement you have.

6. He deleted it.
You can delete posts that others make to your wall. You can keep reposting it if you want. Maybe at some point he'll take a break from Facebook and your comments can stay up there a while. Other than that, you have no control over what stays on his wall.

7. It's probably a lag in facebook updating their database today.

They may have deleted it if they are online. I personally defriend those jerks because they can access your history unless you do. Just saying :)

11. Fortunately we can delete stuff that others post to our walls.
If someone posts something obnoxious on your wall, you don't want it to sit there for all the world to see.

I had to do it once. And immediately unfriended the person afterwards.

It makes less sense to delete a post in a debate/discussion thread, but it certainly can be done.

12. typing it in without pasting seems to have worked.
for now, at least. ;)

i mentioned upthread that he's not the type to delete something. He says he welcomes debate and we are civil to one another. Often he is not civil to groups of people and to the Obama Administration, but one on one, he's usually ok.

13. It's a fairly common thing to post something only to have it disappear
...maybe he deleted your comment
...maybe it's a glitch or a bug in facebook.

I know that occasionally replies disappear for no apparent reason. I posted someothing to my brother, came back later and noticed it was gone, and also one of his friends asked him "hey where did my reply go?" and my brother insisted that he didn't do anything, and I believe him.

I once posted a new discussion (status), and it disappeared 5 minutes later.

I'm inclined to think at least 50% disappear due to a facebook glitch.

14. Imagine he just deleted it, you just need to check the block next to any -
- post on your wall to make it go away. If you don't like seeing his comments but don't want to de-friend him, you can check the block that will show up next to any post he does that appears on your wall and you have the option of "hiding" him.
