Arizona Glock: Tickets Will Go Quickly For This Firearm!

The competition was tough, but today's Tone-Deaf Award goes to Arizona's GOP, which is holding a fundraising raffle. First prize: a Glock handgun, like the one used to shoot Gabrielle Giffords in the head. The raffle is in Pima County, where the shooting took place.

The raffle gun comes preloaded with three 12-round magazines. Glock USA describes the model as "a slightly reduced size of a full-size handgun for easier concealment but still retains the performance of a serious big bore."

They could of also included a 'how to' video to help budding assassins. <./sarcasm>

This is an obvious boast these perps have no class, maturity or good taste. IT will come back to haunt them if anyone else is shot with one of thee handguns. These people are revolting.

Glocks are probably the single most popular handgun brand in the country. They're like the Toyota of handguns.

Having one for a raffle is hardly surprising. Hell, I've bought raffle tickets for one myself, at a fire-department fundraiser in Minnesota.

Didn't win, though.





(And yeah, it hurts a little to say that the most popular handgun in America is , headquartered, designed and made in Austria, and the most popular car brand in America is headquartered and designed in Japan and built in Japan and America) :-(

8. You'd think that the GOP would show a little "patriotism" and use a US built gun in their raffle.

But this isn't really about "patriotism" for them so much as it is sending an intimidating message to the opposition.

I agree that repubes tend to be giant assholes, but there are probably a dozen such raffles going on at any one time. This one is drawing attention because a) it's in Gifford's district, and b) it's the same model as the one that whats-his-face used.


If it was only a) or b) it would not have drawn any attention whatsoever.

The OP is addressed the social panic of having a specific make and model of handgun being raffled off in a specific geographical territory, and I was addressing the OP on those lines.

5. My son has a Glock 23. I think its junk, many plastic parts. He loves it though.

Compared to my Beretta, or my wife's, its real junk. To tell you the truth its sort of large and clunky too so its not much good for concealed carry. His came with the Brady-Bill 10-round magazines but I managed to find him a pair of 13-rounders and gave them to him for Christmas last year.

Anyway if you were thinking about buying one I'd recommend against it. For not much more money you can get a much better made pistol, one more likely to retain its value or even grow with time.

10. I had a Beretta and a Glock 19... I ended up keeping the glock.

The glock was MUCH better as a carry pistol.

Berettas are fatter, taller, wider, heavier, and have a shorter sight radius than a glock 19 - all while holding the same amount of rounds. I always thought that Berettas were heavy & oversized which was a big deal for me when choosing what pistol to carry. I eventually ended up never using or carrying the beretta and when I felt like carrying a big heavy pistol I just carried 45acp. Not to mention that Glock's popularity ensure a ton of spare & custom parts for people who like a little originality. Plus you can change calibers with a barrel change and you can step up capacity by just inserting a bigger mag.

I'm not saying beretta is bad... it was a nice gun (smoother slide action and nice trigger).
But for what i wanted I felt the glock was better. It's very utilitarian.

6. In before somebody says that in Arizona you need a gun for protection from coyotes.

Because only the exact model of Glock .45 that shot Rep Giffords and about 2 dozen others will do and not a more traditional "varmint" gun like a .22 rifle.

Loughner used a Glock 19, the one being raffled off is a Glock 23..

A Glock 19 (9mm) was used. And this auction is offerig a Glock 23 (.40s&w) which has nothing to do with either.

Glocks are very popular pistols. Its a good coice to attract more people to the auction.

you are correct that it was a 19/9mm. Ruger, Smith & Wesson, and Colt all offer very popular pistols too, made right here in the US of A.
