Wall Street ready to throw Tea Party under the bus .....
Donohue and Trumka Issue Joint Statement on SOTU

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue and AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka issued the following joint statement on President Obama’s State of the Union Address:

“America’s working families and business community stand united in applauding President Obama’s call to create jobs and grow our economy through investment in our nation’s infrastructure.

“Whether it is building roads, bridges, high-speed broadband, energy systems and schools, these projects not only create jobs and demand for businesses, they are an investment in building the modern infrastructure our country needs to compete in a global economy.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.

Sounds like the fat cats are experiencing buyer's remorse. Who knew that the Tea Party types were serious about cutting government spending?

2. Do I root for the jillionaires or the misled Luddites?
Seriously, most Teapers don't need to be scorned; they need to be educated.

3. Finally, perhaps they are coming to their senses.
but just a statement like this is not enough, they will have to follow through and begin putting direct pressure on the teabagger/Republicans to compromise with the President.

4. I've watched an interesting process in my town the last 25 years:

1.Republican mayor gets elected, and follows through on promise to cut taxes.

2. Infrastructure falls apart; water system , roads.

3. Democratic mayor gets elected and proceeds to scrounge up grants and bonds to repair infrastucture. Bonus: frequently it's a matter of spending money more wisely to get the job done (can you say eliminate waste, fraud and abuse?)

4. Things are running smoothly, and the next election cycle, the Republican candidate wins after campaigning on a platform of cutting taxes.

The problem is that you can't run this cycle forever. I think both my city and country are at the breaking point.

5. This is very true. Every few years the tax crazies get their way, and we start
all over again with trying to fund things. In my community, my kids go to our big suburban high school, built little more than a decade ago--from the outside, it's a nice newer building set in a nice middle class area. But we have no pool, and no auditorium. Voters decided to vote down any more taxes to finish those phases of building. It doesn't help that this is a Republican retiree haven (we have a desertlike climate and low taxes).
