Cantor Shows His Constituents They're Not Relevant and Refuses Meet With Them
http://www.progressva.org/2011/09/eric-cantor-calls-unemployed-constituents-a-distraction-still-refuses-to-meet-with-them.html

Wednesday evening, over 200 folks showed up at the Holiday Inn in Midlothian, hoping to speak with Eric Cantor about our country's job crisis at his closed "Advisory Council" campaign event. Instead, hotel management evicted the group from the premises and called the Chesterfield Police Department to ensure none of the group returned to the premises.

Congressman Cantor has refused to meet with unemployed constituents who have requested meetings with him during the almost 5 weeks Congress has been in recess. He has held no public town hall meetings. When confronted with our Jobs Rally Wednesday evening, Cantor told reporters he found those unemployed constituents to be a distraction.

1. Of course they're a "distraction"
It's their own faults they're unemployed, isn't it?

3. When the campaign money comes from corporations, the constituents actually ARE irrelevant. (nt)

5. Exactly. Politicians please those who "elect" them, and that means the rich corporate class.

6. I believe that we are witnessing the emergence of the era of paid only access.
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 06:55 AM by geckosfeet
Yes, the wealthy have always been able to buy access, but now the pols are not even making an effort to listen to and deal with the problems of their constituents. They don't have to. Why should they when they can simply turn around, grab the pile'o cash and take a walk down easy street.

The po' are expendable masses of labor available for the use of industry and the wealthy. BTW, what's with that minimum wage crap. That's gotta go.

8. True
And that has happened throughout human history...until the people get tired of watching their loved ones suffer...

10. We're there already
They hide behind the free speech argument. But when the cost to get a legislator's ear is more than the poorest citizen can afford, speech is not free. Eric Cantor is anal leakage.

7. Why is this a surprise
The man has already shown that he is totally devoid of all humanity...he cares nothing for those in his district, but the brain dead asshats will re-elect him to another term.

It's up to the Democrats to find an opponent who can defeat Cantor and send his sorry ass back to Richmond...but even if he loses, he'll stay here in DC because even with all of his excellent ass kissing skills even his lips can't stretch that far...

16. Is there a good Democrat in Cantor's district?
And if so, who is he? It is definately worth a look and I'll put him/her on my donation list just to get the heartless prick out of congress.

12. Wow. Such OPEN contempt
& arrogance. Not even an attempt to mask it. The tragic thing is he will probably continue to be re-elected.

14. In that district?
Edited on Mon Sep-05-11 09:11 AM by izquierdista
You may have forgotten his predecessor, Bliley. You know, of Gramm-Leach-Bliley fame? That was the three man wrecking crew that took down 60 years of bank regulation and opened the doors to the derivatives casino.

It's obvious that VA-7th voters want to live like serfs on the plantation and are damn well going to drag everyone else down with them.
