FDR & HST
FDR Speech from 1936
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kRZUaW0HwCM

HST speech (not sure when)

"Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it."

- Harry S Truman

6. For me
I was born during FDR's presidency, and had the pleasure (although I was too young to appreciate it) of shaking Truman's hand during a campaign parade in Mpls. I believe i was in the third or fourth grade at the time. That was when they actually walked the parade route and shook hands with people... our school class was there.

10. Harry Truman...One of the BEST Democrats EVER.

"I've seen it happen time after time. When the Democratic candidate allows himself to be put on the defensive and starts apologizing for the New Deal and the Fair Deal, and says he really doesn't believe in them, he is sure to lose. The people don't want a phony Democrat. If it's a choice between a genuine Republican, and a Republican in Democratic clothing, the people will choose the genuine article, every time; that is, they will take a Republican before they will a phony Democrat, and I don't want any phony Democratic candidates in this campaign."

---President Harry Truman
