Regardless of what President Obama says in his speech, somebody is going to be pissed.
The hype is already going full force. You can almost split the reactions into groups: not enough, too much, caving in, etc. It is almost like a soap opera. I've read about ten versions of what he might say.

2. Most of them have already decided to be pissed
And will interpret accordingly. Even if he gives the speech they would have written, it will be "just words."

6. And why do you think that is? MAYBE because we've been sold down the river
on every single issue he's encountered since he's taken office.

9. Let's just list all of those with the perception of being sold down the river and you will see the
crowded field:

African American unemployed
labor
progressives
immigrants
environmentalist
lgbt community
wall street
trolls
complainers
you
educators
spongebob
elmo
mickey mouse
and every group that feels slighted because their agenda has not been addressed.

Why in the world would anybody compete for that job? It is a walking heart attack.

14. I am responding to your
cry-baby post. He certainly does not need my pity - he is doing just fine for himself as he works for the people who hired him.

Thankfully labor is calling him on his bullshit.

26. You don't think the job is hard?
Not surprising. You think it's like being a king and he can do whatever he wants. No the President is not "leader of the free world." That stupid expression is one of my pet peeves. It embodies all that people misinterpret as to the leader of the executive branch of the US federal government. You just want a benign dictator. Dictators are never benign by the time they are done. Better to have limited and divided powers.

16. If "georgia works" is his interpretation of a good jobs program, you
can bet the bank it'll be negative.

My beef isn't with the president personally, it is with capitalism. He's in his spot doing what his handlers want him to do.

7. Nothing will fit their undefined "Go big" demand.
No matter what he says, it won't be "Big" ... whatever they mean by "Big" will be defined after the speech, not before.

I'd love if he would send a strong enough message that he's pro-labor (and actually creating jobs that pay money).

Much better to piss off the left in your own Party. That will make it easier to get a bi-partisan agreement.

17. Halfway intelligent individuals realize that expectations are pure fantasies
Formula: Expectations = Fantasies.
Expectations are not REAL, just something conjured in your imagination.

For example:
Expectation: Obama should "go big" in his Jobs' Speech

Actuality: Obama fails to "go big" in the speech

Result: Obama has failed and betrayed you

See how this works: Every time Obama doesn't live up to your expectations (fantasies) he is a failure. It doesn't matter what he accomplishes, because he has betrayed you and your values. He betrayed you with the Public Option, the Stimulus, the continuation of the Bush Tax Cuts, etc. etc. It does not matter that the expectations/fantasies were unrealistic, Obama has been a dismal failure.

23. We should have no expectations of our leaders?
You didn't even qualify it with "some expectations," you just seem to be arguing that we should accept what we're given and never assume anything could have been done better. What a miserable democracy you must imagine around you.

25. Caving....
I wonder what people whose primary complaint is that Obama has "caved" and appeared weak would say that if he suddenly met each and every one of their demands.

Would it be "caving" if he suddenly gave in and followed Krugman's instructions?
