1. Could you put that in the form of a sentence in the English language?

2. The people who would have spent that money got to keep it instead.

3. Cold comfort for the tourism industry
which is - last time I looked - a respectable enterprise like any other. Besides, who's to say that people didn't make alternative vacation plans? I certainly wouldn't sit at home, and I didn't in 1984, when a hurricane chased me from Myrtle Beach, SC, and my wife & I headed for Panama City Beach, FL, instead.

5. I thought the whole idea of recovery was to get the economy going
again instead of holding on to the money. If they had enough money for the vacation what is wrong with spending it for that purpose? Not only do they get their vacation but the workers providing the vacation now have money to spend and the store they spend it in has money to spend again so they do not have to go out of business. The entire economy works that way.

Now if they do not have money to spare for a vacation then it is a whole different story. However, that is not the gulf or the east coast tourism businesses fault.

4. Couple of things wrong with that
First it assumes that those who chose not to vacation on the Gulf or east coast simply stayed home instead. It's more likely that they simply chose a different destination, perhaps even outside the US. Secondly, the tourism industries in those states are also made up of people, people who will lose their jobs due to the decrease in tourism.

OK, it's caffeine free Pepsi, and I'm drinking with my dog, but still.

9. Just saying those people were able to keep their money. That's a good thing.
