Matthew Stuart, convicted of covering up killing of sister-in-law in Mass. in 1989, dies
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Authorities say a Massachusetts man who helped his brother cover up the shooting death of his pregnant wife in 1989 has died.

Cambridge police spokesman Daniel Riviello confirmed Matthew Stuart’s death Sunday. He says in an email that his family was notified and his body transferred to the medical examiner. He provided no details. The Boston Globe first reported Stuart’s death.

A spokeswoman says the Middlesex district attorney does not comment on nonsuspicious deaths.

Matthew Stuart spent nearly three years in jail after pleading guilty to helping cover up the killing of Carole DiMaiti Stuart. He said he helped hide the gun believed to have been used by his brother, Charles Stuart, who blamed the crime on a black man, heightening racial tensions in Boston.

Charles Stuart plunged to his death from a bridge in 1990.

1. Some might not remember the case - they blamed a black man for the crime...
...but it turned out to be the husband all along:

2. I remember it.
The reason I remember is that someone said that Stuart did not recognize his wife's humanity, not to mention the humanity of the black community. That has always stuck with me.
