Rice University (Texas) makes fun of Tea Party candidate, Rick Perry at halftime

The Marching Owl Band (MOB) is well known for playing out of the box. During halftime at Texas stadium, they started the show with a jab at Tea Party candidate Rick Perry. And the crowd LOVED it!

9. I personally think that Perry is a terrible candidate, fully worthy of

being criticized. But, my point, which you seemed to have totally missed, was that a public organization that includes students of all political sides should not participate in partisan, public ridicule.

During my 35 years of directing various school bands, including two university bands, I have never seen one ridicule any public figure. It's just not an appropriate part of a school band's education and/or entertainment mission.

It's a Rice tradition. The MOB was playing a UT half-time show. It would have poked fun at any A&M graduate running for president, regardless of party affiliation. It was an Aggie joke, and a pretty good one, imo.

This game was the perfect audience for that joke. Rice Band is famous for their "out of the box" humor.

Rick Perry is a disaster for higher education and education in general. Educators know this.
