CBS - "Guest lineups for the Sunday news shows " - Or, Why The Left Has No Leverage...

There is a thread asking why the left/liberals/progressives have little leverage. Well, the answer is hiding in plain sight. The corporate media is controlling the narrative. Look at CNN's State of the Union. Joe Lieberman gets to play the role of Democrat. On Face the Nation, there is no liberal or Democrat. Finally, another rule of the corporate media is that they often only allow liberals to speak if they attack Democrats or give Republicans a free pass. Thus, Fox News once featured FDL's Jane Hamscher standing shoulder to shoulder with Grover Norquist to attack Timothy Geithner.

This Sunday, it appears that the only Democrat really getting any air play is Maxine Waters who will likely be attacked for her attacks on the Tea Party as racist.

Since Obama was elected Democrats have been underrepresented on the talk shows, before Obama came along there were just as many Democrats on Press The Meat as there were Republicans.

Yet, on Sunday, you rarely see these folks on the Sunday shows unless it is to bash Democrats. Also, why not Nancy Pelosi or other members of the House? When Republicans where a minority, they were always featured to provide a counterpoint to Democrats. Why aren't Democrats getting similar access?

Remember when Rand Paul, a candidate, was getting network coverage while his Democratic opponent, Conway, was ignored?

13. I used to watch the talking head shows back before the internet..

They weren't all that different then, every now and then you might get someone on the left but only as a punching bag for everyone from the center right to the John Birchers.

The discourse in this country has been bent hard to the right for decades and a lot of it is done by the M$M while at the same time they are excoriated by the right as being "liberal".

I'm reminded of Sun Tzu, deception is paramount in warfare.

6. This is EXACTLY the problem.

The Corporate Media determines the narrative by determining the narrator. Also, we get manipulated because we're too easily fooled.

During the 2000 primary, we had the best Democratic Presidential candidate who has ever run for office. Not only was she experienced and sharp and trustworthy, she was a SHE, a minority whose time had come.

The only way to knock her off was to put forward a stalking horse candidate with even MORE credentials as a minority than the female candidate had. Once that stalking horse was located, groomed and trotted out, ALL the corporate media combined to attack the woman and throw support to the smooth and dazzling newcomer. Obama was a creation of the MSM, with the willing assistance of naive Democrats and bitter Clinton-haters.

During the Primaries, while watching my Party double-cross one of its best-ever candidates -- with disdain and insult, no less -- I several times posted on DU a comparison between Obama (and his starry-eyed supporters) and the creatures in James Thurber's Fable "The Owl Who Thought He Was God."

I was right to do so.
