7. Yep. We suck compared to other 1st world countries
Perhaps the idiot should be asked "So you want us to be more like Bangladesh or Viet Nam? instead of Germany and Japan?"

4. We should be working less - its crazy how much less vacation
we get then the rest of the "civilized" world. We'd be a lot healthier mentally and physically as a result.

5. What's he saying?
If he thinks Americans take too much vacation time, he's been swigging something.

OTOH, if he's complaining that they DON'T, sounds like just another out of touch elitist (um, you do realize us proles have bills to pay, right?)

8. He was complaining that people don't take all of their vacation.

He was saying that people should not work and sacrifice for what they want. Apparently that virtue offends him.

11. Probably pointing out the raw deal we get in terms of paid time off
compared to every other nation that might be called our peer. Because that is true, and it is true because Americans do not have the self respect to expect time with family and loved ones and interests outside work.

13. Unemployment is exacerbated by 60 hour work weeks
and abuse of FLSA, calling everyone "managers" so they can be salaried.

Either implementing 4 weeks of vacation or shortening the work week to 32 hours would cure our unemployment problem.

14. So you want to take 8 hours of work/pay from everyone who has a job
Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 10:24 AM by RB TexLa
just to inflate employment?

Giving people 4 weeks of vacation doesn't mean they all take it. You aren't proposing that people be forced to use all their vacation time?

15. Yes. Bingo.
I would take the hours away from those who are working too many, and give it to those who aren't working at all. And yes, including you.

16. Why stop at 8 hours? If you take 20 hours a week from all the haves you can
inflate employment numbers even more. You could even outlaw people from having a second job.

19. No they really don't. To say you have to steal from people who have jobs to increase

the number of jobs at fewer hours of work? I don't know if the person is wanting to make sure people don't get benifits by wanting people to have 32 hour a week "full time" jobs. Or if they consider people who have jobs to be the haves and want to take ten and a half weeks worth of pay away from them.

21. Labor is a supply/demand commodity.
It's value goes up as the supply goes down.

A 32 hour work week would raise the hourly wage, decrease unemployment and cure a myriad of social ills.
