No More Giant Sucking Sounds
Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 04:06 AM by lib2DaBone
If the new trade deals with Korea and South America are so wonderful.. how come they have to create another slush fund to re-train displaced workers? TAA (Trade Adjustment Assitance)

Could it be they already KNOW thousands more jobs will go offshore?

Peterson Institute for Economics. Is that the same Pete Peterson who told Obama to gut Social Security and Medicare?

Analysis: Obama's trade legacy in a crucible this fall

LABOR OPPOSITION

Still, Congress' approval of the South Korea, Colombia and Panama deals is not assured.

Richard Trumka, president of the AFL-CIO labor federation which opposes the deals, boasted on Wednesday that opponents may have the votes to stop the pacts, which they see as a threat to U.S. jobs. "I think we have a real shot at it," Trumka said.

In addition to the challenge from organized labor, Obama must persuade Republicans focusing on spending cuts to renew a retraining program for displaced workers known as Trade Adjustment Assistance. This is critical to gaining enough Democratic votes in the Senate to approve the trade pacts.

But "if the administration spends the effort and actually finishes the job (the trade deals) with Congress, that will send a very positive signal," said Jeffrey Schott, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics

2. international WAGE LADDER - All wages linked, low to hi, + foreign to here
Edited on Sun Sep-04-11 04:36 AM by sam11111
If wages drop anywhere that puts down pressure on YOUR wage

Only tarrifs protect

Btw,
Tax cuts » spending cuts» less food stamps for jobless » the employed see the misery and are scared out of striking for decent wages » they accept wage cuts.... YOU get WAGE CUT.

Wage ladder.. Its why you shd care about the unemployed and others at the very bottom. Also care about Globalism's spread with lowering wages abroad.
2 billion people pushed down into poverty and extreme poverty so far... UN report.

And it is still spreading...dollar a day is the global goal for us all.

4. On this Labor Day.. it is interesting to note...
.. that all these latest so-called "Trade Deals" were created by Bush, before he left office .. and now they are resurrected by Obama.

Thanks a lot Barrack.

We learned NOTHING from NAFTA and CAFTA.

8. Learned nothing? I think not..
They learned that the owners can make exceedingly large sums of money through things like NAFTA and CAFTA.

Your mistake is thinking the politicians care about the average working person.

This cartoon says it better than I ever could.
