I know what my values are
and I expected Obama to be generally supportive of those values.

To wit, I was hoping for a president who would be pro-environment, pro-labor, pro-civil rights, anti-corporate greed, and anti-torture. In short, pro-America.

So far, Obama's not bringing it for me.

Most notably and most dangerously, seniors, almost to a person it appears, despise him...they are not stupid, working folks, especially union working folks despise him, here where I live. I suspect that is the case around the country and for the same reasons.

51. I have but one thing to say about criticizing a president!
I have but one thing to say about criticizing a president!

"The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole. Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile. To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else."

all saying how much respect and regard they all show other democrats
use the google searcher in the corner with their names and the names of prominent democrats
that tells a very different tale as they will savage any democrat to defend their cultmaster
the search defines them in their "support" of democrats and the party in general and the definition is ugly

34. That's your choice isn't it?
If doing nothing but griping and feeling so put upon is your thing, then do it. Stay home and make that 'it's all about me' stance. You're not threatening me with your problems.

If the right would win in 2012 the blame would go squarely on the mouths of the right wing who can do nothing but bash, make possibilities realities so they can act up, and who want a one-term president. The far left is helping them along with their agenda, nobody can figure out why, but it's simply amazing to see them claim no responsibility for their rhetoric.

This isn't about you, it's about the country. If you don't care, that's your cross to bear.

When Perry appoints justices that rule Medicare unconstitutional, it won't be Obama that suffers. He'll have plenty of money for healthcare. It will be those liberals that essentially voted for it, by voting against Perry's opponent.

"This isn't about you, it's about the country. If you don't care, that's your cross to bear."

And it's not about Obama. It's about his policies.

If it were really about the country, you would see the importance of ending the wars, not giving tax cuts to the rich, not forcing an individual mandate for Health Insurers (without a public option), the continued/escalated attacks on our civil liberties etc.

This is not rhetoric, this is what the "far left" has always stood for.

"Close down Guantanamo, restore habeas corpus, say no to renditions, no to wireless wiretaps..." - Barack Obama, November 14, 2007

"When I promise that I... we are going to bring this war in Iraq to a close in 2009, I want the American people to understand that I opposed this war in 2002, 2003, 4, 5, 6 and 7 -- so you can have confidence that I will be serious about ending this war." - Barack Obama, 2008

I find it hard to believe the mental contortions some of my friends are going through in trying to avoid the simple truth you have stated.

I have friends who still think he's going to have a massive turnaround if he gets a second term -- at this point anything is justified to get re-elected. The number of delusions in this idea is almost uncountable.

69. E-mails to the White House are ignored.
Obama is hoping to go on the speech-making tour of Wall Street when he leaves office. He is just biding his time until he gets the kind of pay-off that the Clintons got.

I remember back when there was a lot of talk about how the Clintons were nearly bankrupt.

That was before. This is now. They are far from bankrupt, and they owe their good fortune to either what they did while they were in office or what they have done since. Now which do you think it is?

18. He is, but you have willfully let yourself be misinformed......
So I hope when you get your new cabinet along with your new president,
I won't have to hear whining...instead, I'll probably hear screaming and
uncontrollable tears going on forever like a waterfall.

------------------------------

What I’d like folks to envision in the meantime is what would happen if progressives woke up the morning of November 7th, and reality hit that the President-elect is not Barack Obama?

Sure, some on the Left would feel vindicated to witness Barack Obama defeated, believing that they had won the battle of “principles” they’d waged for four years to show President Obama their disappointment in him. They would inevitably blame him for their choice not to donate, not to work, and/or simply not to have voted.
<>

How will you feel when the new President nominates partisan cabinet members like Phil Gramm for Treasury, Jeb Bush for the Justice Department, John Kasich for the Office of Management and Budget, Scott Walker for Labor Secretary, Paul Ryan for Health and Human Services, Rudy Giuliani as Secretary of State, John McCain as Secretary of Defense, and Newt Gingrich as UN Ambassador? Sure, it may not be those particular ideologues in those exact positions; in fact, it could be worse still. Keep that in mind.

How will you feel when the new President gets a chance to replace Justice Kennedy, or worse yet, Justices Breyer and Ginsberg? What about all of the other judicial nominees that the new President will get to choose?

How will you feel when the new President decides to nominate folks over at the FCC who would vote against Net Neutrality? How mad would you be if the Internet became less of a factor for free speech, and more of a factor for message manipulation and propaganda?
<>
As importantly, how will you feel that you didn’t do everything possible to assist in the 2012 re-election campaign because you rationalized that there was nothing good you could say about President Barack Obama, or you conveniently convinced yourself that someone else would handle your share (or so you assumed)? How will you justify protest then, or even be angry knowing that you always had a choice and yet you chose to do less than you could do?

attention.

Don't be misled.

37. Obama has been exactly as I expected.
And then some.

Next time we'll learn to not vote for the post-partisan candidate.

41. I apologize for my snarky response earlier. I'd had a bad night
and took it out on you. :(

I'm really sorry.

Often DU is the only place where people even KNOW what we're talking about, and I understand with the way our country is now, we need the support of like-minded people.

Again, I apologize.

48. KandR
We share the same values.
I've already given up on him...
Too many chances to right the many wrongs...yet he opted to follow the path set before him.
Never-ending wars ... all that was wrong remains the same.
He has blood on his hands.

peace~

50. Knowing One's values ...
And translating them into governance in a democratic system are two entirely different things.

53. I'm getting a kick out the left wing version of "values" candidate selection.
The GOP has been using "values" as a way to claim they are superior.

Now parts of the left are grabbing that frame.

Any idiot from the GOP can claim to support and defend "family values" ... even as they %$#$% a staff member.

It is esy to prove that some one does not share the "correct values". Take the recent environmental protesters at the white House ... did the ride bikes to get there? Did they ride "gasp" buses???

The use of abstract "values" to complain is an easy way to ignore actions you want to ignore, and scream about actions you want to scream about.

And this is true whether the right or the left goes there.

58. In terms of, say, the Environment, or benefits for the poor/disabled, "vales" have real world
implications.

"Values" in terms of "I don't like going to the park because there might be a kid with 2 mommies there" or "we need to stop consenting adults from looking at picutres of boobs on the internet" or somehow "maybe if we don't teach kids biology in high school, they'll stop fucking before marriage", those are bullshit "values".

Protecting the poor, the weak, the environment, helping people who are in trouble... those are VALUES, and I don't think they need to be apologized for.

I'm still voting for the guy next year, but I agree with you.

To commandeer an old expression, he hasn't missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity.

79. But, you voted for him...because you didn't want The Other Guys to win.
Right?

I sure as hell did.
Now I'm wondering how to not just support the Democratic politicians, but support the most Democratic politicians. Seems to me, the selection process starts before the primary.

Either we find some way to get really Democratic pols involved and elected as prez.
Or we take page from ol' watsisname and elect a bunch to congress and get 'em to sign a pledge. Otherwise, we get more watered down Republican bs handed to use every 4 years. You know, to keep The Other Guys out of office.

But, what do I know?
