Old friends turned enemies. Sounds so much like the West cosying up to Saddam int he 1980s and then hating him.

perhaps we had supported many of them over the last 3 decades, but the prospect of them passing their position on to their children was just too much for the local people to bear.. These people probably saw this particular time in history and the one last change to get something different, and our preferences of the past were just that.,.in the past.

I don't think the US was all that crazy about having to deal with Qaddafi's son or Mubarek's son.

What used to "work", no longer does, and even though it's "messy", it's what had to happen.
