Green Day Singer Kicked Off Flight for Baggy Pants
BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG REFUSES SOUTHWEST REQUEST TO PULL THEM UP

By John Johnson, Newser Staff
Posted Sep 3, 2011 6:12 AM CDT

NEWSER) – Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong learned about airline security the hard way: He got booted off his Southwest Airlines flight this week because he refused to hike up his baggy pants, reports San Francisco's ABC 7. When a flight attendant asked him to comply before takeoff, he responded, "Don't you have better things to do than worry about that?" He and his traveling partner were eventually taken off the plane.

"Just got kicked off a southwest flight because my pants sagged too low! What the f**k? No joke!" Armstrong tweeted Thursday. Southwest followed up with an apologetic tweet to him, and Armstrong was able to catch the next flight to Burbank.

Okay...
I just don't think it is that big a deal.
Either way.
Chill out, let him where his pants.
Or, pull your damn pants up, choose another airline next time.
Plenty of fascists in Washington doing real, permanent damage. The far right never runs out of them, constant supply.

TSA people seem to have mega-power when someone dares to confront them.. This is a lesson people have to learn in the current scheme of things.. If it's important to you to buck the "system" to say your piece, do so, but be aware that you may not be able to fly..

It sucks, but that seems to be the way things are now..

Good comeback Billie. That attendent was American Idiot redux.

Either she didn't know who he is, or maybe she did and doesn't appreciate his message during the Bush years. Perhaps that crewmember just helped write the next Green Day hit.

The attendant was likely chastized and reminded that first class seats are very expensive in such a competitive business.

If she was "just doing her job" as you say, I imagine she'll do it differently from now on.

Fuck him. He's no one special. Who cares what he said during the bush years. Those years are over, or haven't you heard?

So the lead singer of a second-rate band gets special treatment because of who he dislikes? I find that laughable.

The idiot was the person who made a big deal over a pair of pants. An authoritarian. There seem to be an awful lot of them around these days.

Good that the company sided with him. I hope the authoritarian idiot who thought s/he had the right to tell people what to wear, learned to mind their own business regarding other people's choices of fashion.

34. I know.
People here are blaming Armstrong's archaic fashion choice instead of wondering why a flight attendent would refuse to swallow pride and deliver the kind of customer service that a competing airline would expect.

Regardless of the opinions posted here, since the airline appologised the flight attendent probably got an earful from corporate about how little they care about the manner of dress for first class passengers. It would appear most posters here would have kicked Armstrong off the plane and told him to not come back until he properly obtained a pair of khakis and Birkenstocks.

I'd be happy to lead the other passengers in the waiting area at the gate in a few choruses of "Pants on the Ground." A little public humiliation goes a long way toward people doing sensible things. People have the right to dress as they choose. Other people have the right to express their distaste for that manner of dress. Rights are super cool!

And for the 'crime' of wearing something someone disapproves of?

I wonder what Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams might think of what they fought and nearly died for.

What is not sensible, in a supposedly free country about wearing the kind of clothes you feel most comfortable in?

So now, along with Rapiscans, we have Fashion Police deciding who can fly and who can not.

Who needs terrorists to 'take away our freedoms'?

33. I looked up SWA's Contract of Carriage.
It says they can deny boarding to any passenger who presents a safety hazard, or whose clothing is "lewd, obscene, or patently offensive."

If the guy's butt crack was showing, or if his pants were so baggy they could have been unsafe in an evacuation, they were within their rights under the contract of carriage. However, they should have told the guy what the reason was. Doesn't sound like they did that. It does sound like an FA didn't like his fashion statement; SWA is rather infamous for being uptight about passengers' clothing.

I'm a bit curious about just exactly how droopy the pants really were.
