Update from SE Connecticut - Irene impacts.
Many residents here in the forgotten east side of Connecticut remain without power or water after Irene. This is Day 6 of the blackout for most of us. Connecticut Light & Power has basically ignored the towns east of the Connecticut river (Mostly Rural) and have left tens of thousands without power for drinking water wells.

AT&T is running the local UVERSE junction box with a generator, and the local gas station and businesses are on generator. We had some large trees come down but the electric lines are in good shape overall. The National Guard is loading trucks for each town with MREs and water supplied by FEMA and each town has set up distribution points at local schools and firehouses. My town, Montville, canceled school until Tuesday and is using the high school as a hot shower and water distribution center to supply non-potable water for flushing toilets. The local firehouse is supplying the bottled water and food.

I am doing fine overall, though the lack of power is wearing down my patience. I still have plenty of canned food and cooking gas for my Coleman stove, and am one of the lucky ones on public water. I have been supplying water to co-workers who have not been as fortunate. I can only be online for a limited time, as I charge my laptop battery and Modem backup battery on a neighbors generator and then rush to get the news before they run out. It's ironic that the internet works well before the electricity.

Take Care DU!

My daughter still doesn't have power either. She said when she called LIPA yesterday that a recorded message said there are still approximately 200,000 customers without power. Nothing about when they will get their power back. She has to eat all her meals out and take showers and do wash over a friend's house 15 miles away.

Edit: My daughter her power restored at 11 AM today. She is very, very happy! Fingers crossed it is restored soon to everyone. It's no fun being without. Been there, done that.

3. Something seems to be really wrong with CL&P.
I heard on the news this morning that they made no plans to get in extra crews before the storm hit, which if true is absurd negligence. All the other power companies did so. I'm glad you're ok though NY, and I hope you can keep us updated when you get a chance.

4. Hang in there, fellow Nutmegger!
My family and I consider ourselves fortunate.
We live in a more urban area (Waterbury), and the localized electric grid that we're on also happens to be the same one that supplies both Waterbury Hospital and the medical buildings surrounding it, so our system was a priority to get back up and running.

We lost power at 7:00 am Sunday, but had it back by 4:00 pm Monday. It was kind of annoying, however, to see some of the streets and houses within sight of our house never lost power at all.

5. Hang in there buddy.
It's times like that where you have to rely on community and fellowship and vice verse. You're in great shape, you have food, water, and shelter. Being without power sucks but it's not the end of the world and you'll be a stronger person for it, trust me.

6. I'm in Killingly and CL&P finally gave me an ETA yesterday on when I can expect power back
their ETA is this Monday by 8:30 pm.

I had water throughout the storm, but I have an electric water heater. At least I can flush the toliet!

A friend told me that I can come to her house Saturday afternoon to watch the Notre Dame-USF football game on NBC. She had power throughout the entire storm.

8. It is being reported that CL & P did not bring in extra crews before the storm.
Until today, they have been unable to give estimates as to when power will return as well as ignoring the eastern part of the state.
Upper Fairfield County has the same problem.
