Charter school accused of becoming adult club at night in Miami-Dade

By day, the Balare Language Academy is an A-rated charter school, home to children in kindergarten through middle school.

But when the kids are tucked into bed, Balare apparently becomes a playground of a different kind.

Party fliers, printed and on the Web, indicate that the campus at 10875 Quail Roost Dr. has been hosting raunchy, booze-soaked bashes into the wee hours. One flier for an upcoming party features a voluptuous, scantily clad woman posing with champagne bottles. Another shows a woman in a string bikini bending over suggestively and a man with flashy jewelry sitting on a stack of currency in front of a gold sports car.

Asked if the school was hosting any parties, founder and principal Rocka Malik responded: "Not that I'm aware of."

1. Thanks for sharing. So glad the Sentinel wrote about it.
I may be wrong, but I think there was a similar case in the Tampa area I heard of last year? Not sure. Thanks..:hi:

7. Cut it out!! They're *public* schools backed by *non*-profits.
Or so their apologists insist.

Might be interesting to trace any $$$ that this august institution gets from predatory philanthropists. Aka: corporate school "reformers."

6. There was one in Philly also....night club at night. Harambee Charter school
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/03/30/club-damani-harambee-scho_n_519243.html

"PHILADELPHIA — Who knew a school cafeteria could be so much fun?

A space where hundreds of Philadelphia charter school students have been eating their lunches during mundane weekdays has been doubling in its off-hours as nightclub, offering dancing and drinking despite an expired liquor license.

City and school officials are not happy about the arrangement between Club Damani and the Harambee Institute of Science and Technology Charter School, which serves about 450 children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Superintendent Arlene Ackerman said in a letter to Harambee on Monday that "a school and a nightclub cannot coexist in the same space and (the arrangement) must cease immediately," according to a school district statement. As a charter school, Harambee receives about $3.5 million annually in public funds but operates independently of the district."

And here is a video about it:

Porn in the USA: Conservatives are biggest consumers

"However, there are some trends to be seen in the data. Those states that do consume the most porn tend to be more conservative and religious than states with lower levels of consumption, the study finds."
